While I agree there are 2 sides to every story, I can't imagine somebody charging $400 for a part that they warned is "crap" and should only be used as a "spare". If it was me, and I cautioned someone that it is in bad shape/only use as a spare/needs repair etc, then I sure as hell wouldn't charge for it - instead I would say "it's your's no charge, you pay the shipping and you can have it"

Could it be more likely that the sale will be reversed privately on the condition of continued anonymity? But, I guess we'll see...

I did not purchase the wheel on ebay; I purchased it directly from the member.
I am not getting any lawyers involved, that is entirely not the goal nor do I have any intention of doing so.

Wow. Without commenting on this particular seller or buyer, I will say this is the real challenge in used parts, and why I respect companies that try to swim in these waters. Things I think are junk, might be acceptable to another party. Things they think are junk. might be acceptable to me. There are so many shades of gray in used auto parts, that it can really be a crap-shoot.

It does appear, based on the picture posted, the wheel is not what most folks would consider roadworthy.

This is disgraceful. It amazes me how people can totally compromise their morals for a few hundred bucks.

    All,

I agree that $400 is a relatively small sum and would preclude the use of counsel. However, it's well within the small claims amount, and, if so desired, the matter could easily be settled there. The buyer could even bring the action in his jurisdiction. Hopefully, though, none of that will be necessary and the matter will be settled privately.

That said, we've all heard the Caveat Emptor phrase. For a reason, I might add. It's a lot easier to prevent a bad sale than it is to recover after-the-fact.

I am in the process of acquiring some old parts from a fellow Fchatter. We are navigating through the whole process carefully so as to protect both parties. Granted, there's more at stake, financially, but we should all be playing on the straight and narrow regardless of the sums involved. Sorry to hear about this, though.

The other problem with "outing" him is this thread will disappear into the archives, and unless the OP (the only guy who knows this lowlife) pays good attention to the ad's section he'll be free to scam someone else......

Maybe there should be a sticky in there with "known bad guys"?

    Cheers,
    Ian

I would appreciate that indeed to protect others from this occurring to them. I have given the seller one last opportunity to do the right thing, otherwise I will let you know who it is shortly.

Frankly what is I suppose the biggest frustration is that the seller could easily do the right thing here, and it would cost him nothing because I offered to pay the shipping to return the wheel to him, as I paid to have it delivered here to begin with.

    Regards,
    MB

And the other-other problem is if outing him doesn't work, after the threat, MB will most likely never be paid back.

As for the rest, FC has a loooooooong memory!

From what Matt said earlier, I would think so.....

Yep, understood. But it only takes one ad, not noticed by "the community" and a newbie buyer for it to repeated (potentially).

As someone said, almost an accepted practice on Ebay, but in here it's totally unacceptable IMHO.

i would drive to his house and dig a huge hole in the yard...bury the wheel there and put up a headstone.

Yes. Hopefully, he realizes the error of his ways and appreciates the c-o-u-r-t-e-s-y MB is extending here and will refund the money asap.

Sh*t happens but this is flat out wrong!

OMG was that wheel raised from the Titanic?

WOW that is horrid and utterly beyond junk. This is a sad reminder and demonstration, however nearly unbelievable this is: Even when you think you're ok, you're not: Get lots of pics sent before you buy.

I just can't believe this though. How anyone would even think it is okay to sell this piece of **** to anyone is beyond comprehension. He must be desperate for $400.
