here's what I just read about that: the tall mast is a pitot for measuring airspeed, new cascades on the front wing

Schumi only did 9 laps to achieve his time (1:14.255) whereas Rubens did 60 laps for his time (1:14.449). This is going to be good, I think my dilema may have been answered on which race to attend in July!

    Carol

    Schumi back on-track and down to a 1'13.840, now a 1:13.574, followed by a 1:13.498

I caught a freeze frame photo on another site with the tv reference so I quickly went there and caught much of it but many parts seemed scrambled?

n-tv is actually a news and business channel, they obviously filled their slots with F1 parts with more focus on their program planning than on the actual content...

Wow, very exciting so far. Massa atop the time sheets and MS looking fast, I'm loving it.

    When is the next session?

So if you take the top three times and compare them here's what I come up with:

First is Pedro at 1:12.784 - it took him 59 laps to get this time

Second is Massa at 1:12.842 - it took him 83 laps to get this time (.058 back)

Third is Schumi at 1:13.449 - and it ONLY took him 23 laps to achieve this time (.665 back)

Therefore, I believe that given a few more laps Schumi would be at the top! ! !

take this one step further with Rosberg and he and Schumi completed very close to the same number of laps with similar times.....I think this will be a terrific driver pairing for putting two cars in the top. A 16 lap difference with only a time differential of .094.

Tomorrow and Wednesday have great promise.

    Carol

TifosiUSA, sorry but Massa isn't atop the time sheets!

Unless that's as fast as the car can go.

Apart from being able to say that neither Massa nor Schumacher are completely off pace, the times and especially the laps to achieve them are pretty meaningless. Maybe Massa drove 75 laps with a very heavy car for Ferrari to find out how it behaves, or maybe Massa was on fumes to get a good time and Schumacher had the heavy car, or or or...

While there is of course a PR effect by achieving the fastest lap, testing time is far too valuable nowadays to just drive as fast as possible.

Heh, I was looking at the posts here instead of watching the live feed. I'm pretty surprised by the pace of ole De La Rosa...

seems like Pedro and Massa have been testing different things as evidenced by their inconsistent times and frequent stops.

Also- Schumi got the benefit of Nico's 39 laps which I bet helped get the settings close. It seems he's made a few changes and picked up some more. It wouldn't surprise me to see a 1:12.xxx before testing ends .

I am VERY pleased that Massa and the F10 seem to be showing some early potential and that those who thought the old guy would not be able to hang with the young-guns, may need to rethink that stance.

Which means that either the times are meaningless or Sauber is the new Brawn - an ex-factory team whose manufacturer pulled out due to the lack of success, leaving them with an unclear future, barely making it to the grid, surprising everyone with fast times at the first tests and then winning the WDC with a driver nobody expected to even win another race ;)

Edit: Uh, and I forgot: They were bought by their boss!

The only "sure" thing you can draw from this is that the old man has still got what it takes...

Rubens brings out a red flag when his Cosworth engine coughs. Massa turns a 1:12.359.

10 minutes just added to session.

Wait, so Williams is running Ferraris? I was under the impression that they were sporting Cosworths.
