I recently received a picture of a body-less F50 from Erik (Peloton25) and he suggested that it would be interesting to see if anyone else had some history on this car.

Serial number, whereabouts, misc., etc...anything would be great. Neither of us are sure where the picture came from, and to quote Erik: "I've had the picture on my HD since October 2002, and couldn't begin to tell you where I found it."

It's such a unique shot of this car's pre-production life. I almost wish they just left it as is...

    :D

    Thanks in advance.

Marcel - is that your photo?

Either way, do you have additional images of this car you could share perhaps?

    Thanks!

Yes sir, those would be factory wheels on an F40.

Factory wheels as in when it's moved around the factory, or when the car is sold?

Doesn't look much like F40 wheels to me.

Of course since I don't own one I could be mistaken.

ANyway I have seen the pic on here several times and think it has been discussed before.

Those aren't F40 wheels, close but not quite. Ferrari used that style of wheels on many of their cars.

Very well then. But I still can't see any difference in the wheels, aside from a glare caused by the flash in the picture seen a few posts above...

Offset on the fronts is very different and look at the spokes carefully. The F40's have an inlay and detail. The ones on that F50 are smooth and flat.

reminds me of the vipers I saw at the factory. they drive them to this area before going to the body panel station. pretty neat.

That's ok, but not nearly as cool as the carbon monocoque with that V12 strapped to it. Since they drove the Vipers like that, wonder if they ever drove the F50, too.

It does not look like Galleria Ferrari to me. I don't recall seeing any rooms/displays that look like the one in the picture. Some of the text on the wall reads Corpo Vettur, which means "car body"

Do you have the original high resolution photo and the original file name?

    Very nice - thank you.

One more vote for 'not F40 wheels' but the design is certainly similar, I'll give you that.

Very very cool pic. Thanks for sharing.

Even though they are not F40 wheels. Would F40 wheels fit on a F50, and if so has anyone tried it? I think it would be pretty interesting combo.

It is S/N 98170 and the pic was taken June 1997. Only about 13 years ago. Meanwhile, Galleria Ferrari has been extensively remodelled and changed and looks quite a bit different.

I wonder how much faster it is in that state. I know the F50's body panels aren't heavy, but they're certainly not light.

Marcel, do you have any knowledge of why this one was pulled out of the production process and displayed like this? Is it correct to assume a body was eventually placed on it and it's out there today like a "normal" F50?

Looks like it is missing some radiators and other piping that fits on with the body. Would be kind of cool to drive like that though. I figure the top speed would b greatly deminished, but the start times would be astronomical!

considering your average person doesnt know what a F50 is I'd say they'd have no clue what it is w/o shell LOL nice pic!

How much would it take to make that car drivable?

Wonder how fast that would be? Imagine the sound!!!

    Great photo!
