Apparently this is quite difficult if you are an existing customer with an existing car.

A friend of mine asked to increase the insured value on his car and they refused. because to quote their words 'its an indemnity' policy to cover what you paid for the car, not a 'replacement' policy so that you can buy a direct replacement in the event of a loss.

I for one have always found Shannons difficult, you will ring them 1 day and they wont insure your vehicle type, or the quote will be astronomical, and you will ring them another day and they're all fine with it and the quote is reasonable.

seems theres no rhyme or reason to it. but in the case of my GT3 they were the most reasonable insurer (first time though)

It always seems like CTS are sniffing glue when they price their cars

Dawes are quite happy to increase the agreed value, provided a valuer acceptable to them agrees with your figure.

Not my experience with Shannons. I bought my 246 in 2000 for $150k. Called them in 2007 for a review of the value. They wanted to see the car, and drove it in on a saturday morning. They took about 5min to look at it and revalued it at $275k

Dawes are the go in my experience. I was with Shannons for years and I got sick of arguing with them over the premium increase EVERY year. All my cars are with Dawes and I find them to be great. Had the first claim in 20 years last year and no problems there either.

Shannons were great when the GT4 turned into a ballerina and died, full payout no issues, claimed for carpark sideswipe on the BMer, all fixed in 3 days from go to Whoa, but I agree that they like to increase the premium while decreasing the value for the cars

I was told to insure with Dawes when I first bought my 348. :):)

    I had a heart attack when I was quoted $4500 on a rating 1! :eek::eek:

I stayed with Suncorp until insurance ran out mid last year. :D:D

Suncorp was $1571 the first year, then went to $1757 for the last 4 years (that includes free windscreen option) until last year when they "jumped" to $2400 (or whatever it was). :(:(

That was agreed value of $115K.:rolleyes:

P.S-Just on the phone to Shannons now to insure the 348.:eek:

    Lol! :D:D

My Dad paid an extra $1000 to have a auto-reverse tape deck when he ordered my Mum's new Mitsubishi Sigma station wagon back in 1980. :D:D

He also paid $1500 for a/c, $500 for middle seat belt in the back and $2000 for p/steering. Top dollar now, SUPER expensive back in 1980 I reckon!! Car cost $13,000 back then on the road. Paid cash. :):)

Sad part is...........the car NEVER had p/steering fitted!:eek:

****ed out Ford (+Mitsu) dealer ripped my Dad off. Must have been because he was a wog that couldnt speak English very well. :(:(

I looked at this car on Saturday..........

To be honest I think it has done 119,000 kms not 19,000 kms. I would want to see a complete history on this car before I accepted the mileage as being genuine.

The drivers seat bolster was severely worn and the general condition was NOT in line with a sub 20K car. It had 225/50/16's on the front and 245/45 tyres on the rear, looked all wrong.

If that car went to Shannons it would be flat out pulling $75K.

Here is another black QV, this time a GTB for almost 1/2 the asking price -

    http://www.carpoint.com.au/all-cars/private/details.aspx?R=8092619&__sid=126905EED386&__Qpb=true&Cr=3&__Ns=pCar_RankSort_Int32%7c1%7c%7cpCar_Price_Decimal%7c1%7c%7cpCar_Make_String%7c0%7c%7cpCar_Model_String%7c0&keywords=&__N=1216%201247%201282%201252%201246%204294966380%204294956748&seot=1&__Nne=15&trecs=5&silo=1011

The Classic Throttle shop has a lovely collection cars but I'm buggered if I know how that derive at their pricing. It's fine to ask a 10%-15% premium, but a 100% premium? I don't think so.

Shannons $1382 for the 348 or $1299 if I insure 2 cars at once with them. :D:D

$1255 if I insure 3 cars with them. That is also agreed value of $115K. :D:D

Only took me 25 mins on the phone.:rolleyes:

They want me to email NEW pics of the car to them. Pics from every side, engine bay and interior pic. :D:D

Just want to confirm there is nothing wrong with the car. :):)

the car dealers use to cry when they saw my dad coming to buy a new car :D

they knew he would buy one but they never got it easy .... just when they thought the deal was done he'd say "throw in the [insert expensive option] for free while you're at it or the deal is off!!"

Funnily enough he got EVERYTHING he asked for, and one time he was recovering in hospital he asked me to go up to the dealer and close a deal he had going ...... the dealer was really upset then because he realised there were more of us :D

Maaaaate..... I've been lurking around car yards for 30 years and would love $50 for every time I've been punted from one. Cars Autohaus in Thornleigh was the latest all because I told them the Porsche 911 was overpriced.

The owner got the sh!ts and asked my who the hell I was making judgment on his car/s. I replied........... "A potential customer!" He said, "I don't need @rseholes like you as customers. F off and never come back."......... I said I wasn't going to........ Absolute Fwit.

It was actually a coincidence. My mate and I thought it would be a good run over there in his Porsche, have a gander and then grab a bite for lunch in North Sydney.

We walk in and this 308 is in the front door. I got a woody when I first saw it but after I saw its condition and price this leveled off a bit. That said, it's good to know that my 328 must be worth around $150K if theirs is worth $128,000.
