Hello all! I just joined this forum to be tutored about Ferraris and other sports cars! I have found that when you need information on a subject, forums are the best places to start. I do not own any type of sports car currently, I guess except for my wife's Aston Martin which I never drive. Other then that I just own a Mercedes S-class and a Range Rover for my wife. I just retired and recently finish building my house which has a 6-car (3 doors 2 cars deep each door) detached garage built solely for sports cars as the attached garage contains my main cars. It is currently empty and waiting for some cars! I do not know too much about cars, but I do know about the Ferrari Enzo as my friend has one and I have had the opportunity to drive it. Definitely a car I would like to have. Unbelievable performance (at least I think so), then again it's the one of very few sports cars I have driven. As I am a fan of Ferrari, I am also a fan of Porsche as I have owned many 911s when I was in my early 30s, loved those cars! Only thing is, I don't think Porsche makes any really special sports cars that are comparable to the Enzo, do they? Well it was nice starting my first real conversation about cars! See you all around! James Dinan
Hello, I am new here. Here is my introductory thread: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?p=139327445#post139327445 I really like the Ferrari Enzo, and am aware as to how special this car is. As I love the Porsche brand, I am wondering if they make a car as "special" as the Enzo. If so, I would love to own one alongside an Enzo. Though I don't know much about sports cars, over the years Ferrari and Porsche are two cars I have found I really like. Due to the way they look on the streets, Lamborghini on the other hand are definitely cars I do not like, they look so immature! Look forward to talking, James Dinan
Hello all, I am new here! Here is my introductory forum: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?p=139327445#post139327445 Anyway, as you may have read in the above forum, I really like the Ferrari Enzo, though it is really the only Ferrari I have had experience with (due to a friends ownership), I am aware it is probably the most special Ferrari ever (due his opinion). Now that I am ready to buy such a beast (partial-retirement, finished building my house), I need some tutoring on the subject. First, to clarify, is it considered the ultimate Ferrari? If not, what is? Is it true it only comes in red?- I have only seen the car in red. What type of engine is in this car? What years were the car manufactured? Were there any options? How much does this car cost? My friend (the Enzo owner) told me "a million dollars," is this true? Thanks for your input! James Dinan
It depends on what vintage. Among early Porsches, the 550 Spyder, RS60, and Carrera GT Speedsters are probably more special than an Enzo, in the sense that they are rarer. There was also the Abarth GTL Porsche. A lot of people would say the Porsche 959 is hugely special. Ralph Lauren has one in his collection, IIRC. On the modern front, the Carrera GT was a limited edition model, probably most directly comparable to an Enzo. To take a contrarian view (as I do in practically every post... ), I would say the Enzo is far less special than a good number of vintage Ferraris from the 250 era. Enzos were essentially collector's items as they were made (400 or so of them), so most of them are still around, lurking under car covers. The older cars were handmade, and driven. And are very rare, sometimes with only a dozen or two cars in existence.
James It is debatable as to if it is he ultimate Ferrari every. IMO yes it is They made 399 of them in 2003. Most are red but there are Black, Yellow, Silver, Dark Blue, White and a few other colors I believe I think the only option was color and luggage or not?? All have V12 motors - 600+ HP Low mile cars cost $1mm to $1.5mm MSRP in 03 was around $600k US You have to do alot of homework if serious about purchasing such a piece of Ferrari history but that is some of the basics
Wow! The responses are so fast! The Carrera GT certainly seems like a car that would rival an Enzo. Made of Carbon Fiber, race seats, limited numbers, etc. Like the looks of it! As far as the vintage car idea: I would imagine that Vintage cars are very special in a particular sense. Though I may be looking to collect cars, I am not looking to collect cars and put them under a cover in my garage and never drive them. I am looking to aquire a nice group of rare exotic cars, yet something you would not feel guilty about driving type of car. I feel that is something that a vintage car cannot do well, but a Ferrari Enzo can. Though Ferrari made a very little amount of the Enzos, I would still not feel bad driving the car, especially if I put something on the car that my Enzo owner friend had, it was a plastic film that went on the car to protect it from rock chips, forget what it's called. As a result, I guess I would be talking about modern sports cars, not vintage. Now, about the Porsche Carrera GT, I think that was exactly what I was looking for when I asked for a car comparable to an Enzo. How hard is it to get such a car? (as you mentioned they are very rare) Thanks again! James
Ah, that definitely helps me take off! My friend wasn't kidding about the price! How hard is it to find such a car to buy? Are there any available for sale? James
There are always some for sale http://autos.yahoo.com/used-cars/overview;_ylt=Akwu7KbF28Hd41Kj7YEpOMouXY54;_ylv=3?distance=any&location=Louisville%2C%20KY%2040245&sortcol=price&sortdir=up&make=porsche&model=carrera_gt&askpricelb=any&askpriceub=any&deliverymileagelb=any&deliverymileageub=any&listingtype=used http://www.dupontregistry.com/autos/Search/DRauSearchResults.aspx?makeid=60&makename=Porsche&modelname=Carrera%20GT&modelid=23&catid=0
1) We get a lot of trolls on this forum. 2) We are wondering the point of this thread, as the information you are looking for is easily available via Google. 3) What's the point of this thread?
Enzos are a real pain, expensive brakes, there's been some engine recalls... j/K Welcome and hang out! If I found a bag of money I'd get a 550 Maybe a 550 Barchetta too, for sunny days. A 456 for taking the whole family to church on Sundays.... The 430 is the last 6 speed, a coupe there. Then a 355, although they have known problems, and they are giving 348s away...get several colors to fit your Mood of the Day as you open the garage door! Then, there's Vintage........
No. Sometimes threads like this have a tendency to go badly sideways. I'm sure you're probably legit in your interest... but you'd be surprised how many kids come on here saying they're trying to pick out the "best Ferrari" and waste a lot of people's reply time yakking with a 15 YO who's still in high school. Not to mention EVERYTHING you've asked is a Google search away. Jedi
Wow! Thats a lot more than I expected! What color would you recommend? As I would be "collecting" these cars, I would want the official race color of Germany (which I happen to know is white due to my experience with 911s about 20 years ago), but I do not see any white, so I guess the next best thing is silver? I like those Orange-y interiors! James
Hi! I'll have to get to know the models! This forum and Wikipedia seems like a great place to start! I am ashamed to say the Enzo is the only Ferrari I really know anything about. What type of engine problems did the Enzo have? Lastly, what does "j/K" mean? Look forward to talking! James
Germany's racing color changed from white to silver in the 30's when Mercedes left a car bare aluminum to save weight.
Ooo, I see. Well I apologize for the ignorant questions. Though I wanted the answers, I also just wanted to start a discussion regarding the car. I actually feel like an expert right now as I just read the Wikipedia on Ferrari in general, the Ferrari Enzo and some other models like the 360 and 440. I also now see that Rosso Corsa is "the" Ferrari color, which is probably what I would get a Ferrari in as I would get a Porsche in silver. Having the correct racing color on a sports car is really important to me. I can assure you I am not a 15 year old high school kid (haha). James Dinan
I think it's also important to say that you don't have to lie about being in the position to buy an Enzo in order to be taken seriously on this forum. There are trolls, and then there are people who are a bit timid. Don't be timid. With this forum, or with yourself. Use common sense and search for the basics, and if you can't find something, search again. Then ask. And contribute in a positive manner when you wish. If you're genuine, enjoy your stay here.
It means just kidding. Welcome to the forum James, I think what NomadM3 means by "haha", is that your story is really "kiddish", that's the only word I can describe it with. I'm not saying I don't trust you, but it really does question others and my own assumption of you, after all this is the internet and I really could be the Prince of a small island and own a bridge in New York. Anyways, yes, Porsche does make a car comparable/or close to the Enzo, and it is the Porsche Carrera GT Welcome to FerrariChat James. By the way, fill out your profile as well.
j/k means just kidding. Hey, I loooooooooooooove Aston Martin's. I also happen to love women. Could you post a picture of your wife in her Aston Martin? That would be awesome!
Ah yes (kind of). I have a picture of my mother and the car, actually the only picture of the car I have on my computer. I let my Mom and father-in-law drive the car for a day and later they emailed my this picture. I am ashamed to say my father-in-law is better with technology then me resulting him supplying me the picture. How do I post a picture up here? James
