    Let's cut to the chase.

This car has been for sale for a while.

It was offered to me last August.

If it was offered to me it may have been offered to others.

There is a vast difference in GTO's.

Some are very original and some are not.

    Racing History is very important.

Besides the visual differences between Series 1 and Series II there is also the issue of cockpit height for taller drivers in Seris II GTO's.

Many of these cars suffered incidents, Restoration, and modifications over the years.

In some cases there has been outright recreation of major components as well.

Some work was good some was very bad.

GTO engines are very important and how original the one in any GTO is a serious issue.

Chassis repair/ Chassis Stampings are very important and there are issues there as well.

The bottom line is I think one should do VERY careful vetting, consult EXPERTS and do forensic analysis.

None of the above is a direct comment on this specific car except for the fact that it has been for sale for a while and offered to me.

    Asking prices don't interest me.

All that matters to me is what after very careful analysis I'm willing to offer if anything.

I made many offers that weren't accepted but I've also made many offers that eventually were.

    Happy Hunting.

European market sell-offs today suggest it might be difficult to reach USD 30 million, as portfolios see short term declines. On the other hand, the "Walking Man I" bronze sold at Sotheby's yesterday for USD 104.3 million, apparently an all time record for art sales at auction.

    Cheers

There is only one of those and it's a good one.

As for USD 30 MM that's not what I'd be offering for this car.

This is one of only 2 long roof cars, so its speciale. Im suprised the nose has never been corrected. It looked just like this when it came to Japan 14 years ago. It has the worst racing history of any 64 rebody. I hope it goes to an owner who will correct all the problems and make it as it was back in April 1964(car #118 T.F.).

I'd throw out an offer, but I'm reserving that garage spot for 4293GT. Ha Ha.

Some of his statues look similar.

There is one on a square here in DK. Holstebro.

No Jim, there are 6 of them......And quite some money for a very nice piece of art. Unfortunately the former owner was a bank....So we paid for it anyway. Probably the new owner is a bank too, so we pay once more for it.

    ciao
    Oscar

ps I assume you were talking about the Giacometti bronze...

    ...just caught it on AutoBlog.

    http://www.autoblog.com/2010/02/04/ultra-rare-1963-ferrari-250-gto-up-for-sale-by-rm-auctions-wi/

    Very interesting indeed.

This will be a very significant sale, I think, as it has been some time since a GTO hit the block. I'm curious to know whether or not the ecconomic times we're in will have an effect on the car's sale price. I'm guessing not, as this particular car will go to somebody without any financial worry.

...does anyone know when exactly the sale will be? I'd love to know more about this if anybody can give additional imformation.

It is believed that example of the first walking man, which was consigned by the Frankfurt-based Commerzbank, is the only life-time cast still in private hands.

My understanding that this car is on private treaty consignment, not to be sold at auction. There's a thread in the vintage forum about it.

    ...and he's down!

    .

So Jim, how long exactly has this car been whispered about behind closed doors?

That is correct, regards the the private treaty sale, covered in another thread. It is heavily modified though.

Given the current market I'm wondering if this is the only one available.

    Thanks. I suspected as much.
This of course effects the value of the car in question.

Something I've always been curious about (but never had the big brass ones to approach).

Unfortunately the only one I'd 'save' would be #3987, but I'm pretty sure she's booked for a while. ;)
