in an interview by www.italiaspeed.com he said there are no plans for 458"scudera" yet:(

In my oppinion thats very sad news, Because I was looking forward to there being one, I mean the 458 is excelent but its beging to be striped out and tightened for street/track use.....imagine what a sweet beast that would be

that is no surprise as the message coming from Ferrari. much of their money and dealers is made on the "flip". they want to focus on the 458 first and when the best customers have all received delivery they will start the "Scud" version which many of those customers will upgrade to allowing slightly used 458 inventory to be cycled through sales again.

    458 only = 1 sale
    458, then 458 "Scud" version = 3 sales

That makes perfectly sense. And I don't believe that there will be no 458 Scuderia. Trust me, there will be a 458 Scuderia.

They always say that. A lot of people would refrain from buying a 458 now if they knew a Scuderia version would be available in a year or 2. By launching it in 3/4 years, Ferrari forces people to buy a regular 458 that they will then trade for a Scuderia...As Rob said, thats 3 sales vs 1.

You forgot the spider. That's 5 sales. Oh, and the 19M spider version of the challenge scuderia stradale. That's 7 sales.

Turnover. It's what makes the automotive world go 'round!

To be fair the article states that "Felisa confirmed that a Spider version of the coupé 458 Italia would go on sale next year although a higher-powered/lower-weight 'Scuderia' version isn't planned as yet." The important bit of that statement being as yet. A stripped out CS/Scuderia style version is now part of the model cycle for the mid engined V8 range and simply too lucrative and halo building for the brand to be ignored by Ferrari. Expect to see the 458 Scud sometime in 2013 I'd guestimate.

FYI I heard from a Challenge Series regular the 458 Challenge will be done for the 2011 season racing alongside the 430 Challenge as they always do.

    - Challenge for 2011 sharing time with F430C, exclusively in 2012

We should see the F458 Scuderia/Stradale in late 2012 or 2013.

    The long way home
I think that'll be a little soon for a 458 "Scud" (or whatever it'll be called).

The trend has been that the all new car (think 308, 348 and 360) has a longer run (5-6 years) than the "updated" version (think 328, F355 and F430), generally with an over-lap in models and MYs.

Based on that, a 458 "Scud" won't appear until 2015 or 2016, probably alongside the new model...

Yep. They spread them out on purpose to sell more cars and to maintain a level of "hype" for each new model. Almost all manufactures do this will all cars.... nothing new.

    YET.

    :)

Patience is a virtue my friend. But our foreknowledge doesn't make the current 458 anything to sneer at either.

Oh you can tell the future can you?

I don't agree with you - look at the dates below which correspond to the show launches:

    1999 360 Modena launch (2000 360 Spider)
    2003 360 CS launch (4 yrs)
    2004 F430 launch (2005 F430 Spider)
    2007 430 Scuderia launch
    2009 458 Italia launch

This points to an almost exact 5 year model lifespan. 'Scud' model launched after 3 years and has a 2 year run-on until model replacement.

On this basis you're likely to see a 458 'Scud' launch in 2012 with 458 Italia replacement in 2015.

The 599 GTO is nothing more than a late run boost to flagging sales of the 599GTB which I recall was launched in 2007.

The success of the McLaren MP4-12 could hasten Ferrari's launch of a 458 'Scud'.

All academic anyway, the 430 Scuderia is pretty much as fast as the 458, goes like hell and makes a fabulous noise (and 130+kg lighter than 458 Italia) - so if stripped out motoring's what you're after, that's where you'll find it for the next 3 years.

sounds about right. however..no need to wait 3 years...just send your 458 to Michelotto even before you take delivery...50k later and you can have +30bhp and -300lbs :)

Knowing Ferrari, they want to say no plans "yet" because if they divulge that there will be a "Scuderia" version for the 458, most likely customers would want to wait for the real hard core version thus may result to low sales for the regular 458. I think it is more of a sit and wait situation. If the sales for 458 is good, then most likely we can expect a hard core version of the 458 like the previous two models.

    360 - 360 Challenge Stradale
    430 - 430 Scuderia & 16M
458 - wait about 4 years and MAYBE we'll see one.

I won't forget what a friend of mine told me who works for a car dealership. Usually, when a car is due for a change, the last 2-3 years of its product cycle usually is the best. They give their all, slight changes, face lift, etc etc to attract customers.

In the case of Ferrari, as for the past two really good models, they came out with Challenge Stradale, 430 Scuderia & 16M. So I am not surprise if they say no plans "yet" but also cannot personally say if they will consider one. If ever they do, I won't be surprised and consider that as "Expected" already.

It's frustrating that they deny any plans to make the 458 Scud.

I was see-sawing about placing an order for a 458 a few months ago, but decided not to.

After spending awhile thinking about it I've decided to sit on the fence for awhile and see how the 599GTO looks and depending on how business is; wait for the 458 scud and add it to the fleet also.

After experiencing the difference between the 430 and 430 Scud, I find it hard to believe the same difference won't exist between the 458 Scud when it's eventually built, and i'd prefer to wait for that day.

come on guys, do you really expect Ferrari to proclaim their newest car, which hasn't even been launched in some continents, to be upstaged already with something better? its just pure marketing. we know from the past, that the typical V8 run is for 5 years with some sort 'special' version in its final run. just be patient.
