These are excerpts from an interview Flavio gave to RAI a couple of days ago. These loose translations were sent to me by an associate who is fluent in Italian. I haven't seen this on the net yet.

    - If I had to choose right now, I'd choose Alonso. Especially now, Alonso is the best possible choice for Ferrari.

    - Schumacher was an extremely good driver with Benetton but he became prone to mistakes after that. Alonso makes no mistakes.

    - Although the car is important, I know that if Ferrari happened to be 2-3 tenths slower than, say McLaren, Alonso can zero out the difference.

    - I think it is going to be hard for Schumacher. He's already 41 years old, after all, and at that age it is not enough to hide your grey hair with hair color.

Although I'm still no great fan of Alonso I cannot dismiss these comments from my second most favorite Italian motorsports personality.

Yeah, it COMPLETELY went downhill for Schumacher after he left Briatores's team... Is his lifelong ban still in place? ;)

He's just trying to woo Alonso back as a management client now that his ban was overturned... ;)

Because at the time, Renault wasn't saying whether they were committing to F1 or not. By the time they made up their minds, Alonso was gone.

BTW Flavio is right, remember all the time MS went off when under no pressure? Alonso doesn't do such things.

Agree, except every year Alonso has one bad race.

The guys on this site will not remember 96, 97, 98 and 99 ... so many sily mistakes by MS, but also so many amazing races.

What else did you expect Alonso's long time Manager (Briatore) to say? Let's not forget that he was getting a slice of Alonso's pie for many years...

I agree with others. His comments on MS come off as "sour grapes" to many. He certainly thought the world of MS when MS was winning championships for him ;)

    Too right Pete,

I'd rather have one bad race than go off for no reason several times, he was just lucky to get away with it. I don't think it's sour grapes with Flav, he's just speaking what he feels. I'm sure he's not the only F1 insider that feels that way.
