A friend has a 1983 ford mustang, v6 3.8L is whats in it. And would like to no if it is possible to put a 302 5.0 L in it. How much stuff would you have to change like trans. mounts and that kind of stuff to make it work.

Depends on the transmission. generally, yes, but a transmission built to work with a v-6 would generally be a poor choice for a more powerful v-8. Depending on how the 302 is built, the transmission may be seriously overpowered, and you'll end up needing to buy a new one. Get a crate transmission from one of the bigger parts warehouses, you'll save money in the long run

The trans will bolt up but you will need a double hump cross member if you plan to run the dual exhaust. You can get that at any wrecking yard.

You can buy a Fox Body 5.0 so cheap it is going to be a lot less money and work to just buy a 5.0 I was just looking for one last year before SEMA for a client that needed one to show off their new interior parts for a Fox Body. Pop on craigslist, I just found a 84 GT T-Top car 5.0 5 speed for $850 and its a running car. If you are in California or other smog nazi states it will save you the time and money of getting the car reinspected by the smog ref...

Im in Kansas so dont have to worry about the smog crap. I thought it would be cheap also
but for some reason he wanted to fix this one. He blew the motor up in it thats way he wants to put a bigger motor in it. But Im going to try to find a mustang for him and see if I can change his mind.

I didnt say it was a fox body. I said it was a 83 mustang. Im just saying it would most likely be cheap and easier for him to buy a different mustang with a 5.0L in it. I think it likes it because its a convertible thats why he wants to fix it up.

If its an 83' mustang, it's a four-eyed fox body. I am curious how a 3.8 liter got in there in the first place. 302's are a dime a dozen. Go find a wrecked deckboat with a marine 302 and go at it!

My dad had an 85 3.8 V6 mustang lx.. That was the lx motor back in the day. In 87 to 93 they went with the 4 cylinder.

    Fixed it for you
6 less likely to have had crap hammered out of it. Needs rear end (easy) and motor mounts (easy). Radiator and suspension cheap too, lots of wrecked 5.0's. Carbed 5.0 from almost anything, and you're done.

I had a 302 HO engine in my 83 Mustang GLX. It was a nice, fun car to play around with. Not as good as a later model GT, but it was good.
