$30mm? shouldn't the 250 GTO have pulled close to that by itself? or has the vintage Fcar market taken that big of a hit?

anyway, great collection and it sounds like it's going to a worthy enthusiast. Sounds like the Monterey Historics just got more interesting! :)

    Chas,

Something doesn't sound right with the price as there is a 250 TR as well.

Not all of them are real.

I believe the GTO has a GTE engine.

If you want facts read this thread.

If you want entertainment read Autoweek.

    "P 4/5" on the cover.

John's Father's car as "The First Ferrari 01C"

" 275 GTB/4 driven by three-time Le Mans winner Luigi Chinetti"

Price must have been saving his nickels while selling cars over the years if he can afford to buy that large right now. He may have the plan of selling off part of the collection and using the proceeds to keep a few for himself for free essentially. Hopefully the guy did his research if some of the cars are pieced together.

Even though some of them aren't the real deal, that's still a cool collection.

The terms of the deal were that the buyer, whoever it was (now determined to be Price), hd to buy the entire collection. Once purchased, the new owner could then do whatever he wished with each individual car.

The list of cars shown in some previous posts inadvertently omit:

    -2003 Enzo #129358
    -1996 F50 #106895
    -2001 550 Barchetta #122760
    -2005 575 Superamerica #
    -308 GT4 #

Both the 250 TR (#2059 GT) and 250 GT SWB (#3725 GT) are replicas/re-creations.

The 365 GTB/4 Daytona Spider (#13477) is a cut car which began life as a Plexi Coupe.

    The Boano (#0447 GT) is alloy-bodied, as is the 275 GTB/4 (#10311).

The 250 GT Europa Vignale (#0359 GT) has one-off coachwork, and was built for Princess Liliane de Rethy of Belgium.

Jim had posted in another thread he linked to in this thread, that Price basically sold his GTO to buy the Kroyman's Collection. This is the question I have to all of you.....Would you sell a real GTO to buy the Kroyman's Collection???

That's a tough one for me. While there are some great cars there, the GTO has a GTE engine, the TR is a replica and the Daytona Spider is a conversion...not sure what I would do...you guys???

Definitely a tough call, but there are some amazing cars for sure. Certainly, if an original engine was not on the planet there could be a new correct engine rebuilt for the GTO through the Classiche program right?

I would not mind being seen in even a cut Daytona, or a TR recreation. These could be amazing driver cars for what they are. You know that the Enzo, F50, and others are STILL going to hold their value. The Barchetta and SuperAmerica would be fun for sure too.

As I have written this I have started to rethink my position. I am not sure its such a bad deal. He sold one GTO, picked up another one that can be fairly easily re-engined, and got a ton of other driver cars that can be enjoyed and sold off to a much wider market than his single GTO could. (i.e. more people can afford 500k for an F50 than 20-30mil for a GTO).

His GTO was used on track every now and then and suffered damage at times (it was actually being raced, not a track day).

I would. I could always sell the replica if I didn't like it, and the GTE engine I'd just convert to GTO spec or something. I don't like the Daytona Spider (the coupe on the other hand is one of my favourite cars!) so I'd sell that too...and just get a coupe.

pro: you get to sample, drive, and enjoy so many Ferraris, some of the best ones, for giving up only one

con: you sell an iconic museum piece, an original GTO, for several fakes and lesser cars despite how cool they are

    --------------------------
    contemplative rambling:

There are some super fine cars there. It is unequivocal.

What would put me off would be the knowing, within my being, even as peers surrounding me would probably be impressed and jealous, that some of the more prized and legendary ones are actually not real nor complete as originals.

Certainly as the choice would be somewhat hard to pass up, as I sit here as a keyboard warrior, I wouldn't feel selling an original GTO for this entire collection would be right.

Despite some of the reallly damn sweet Ferraris among this lot that are amazing, I would feel ultimately remorseful and a charlatan, a personal fake to myself and to the Ferrari community, for trading one iconic original GTO for several fakes among "lesser" cars.

But evidently the buyer didn't think so. Perhaps the buyer is older, has been-there-done-that with the GTO, has had it long enough, has had a GTO before and isn't as dazzled by it, wants a change, wants to have some fun for the rest of his natural life with Ferraris --one for every day of a fortnight and then some. Well he got what he wanted. The event of the sale is impressive regardless of what I think.
