I would ditch those chromed wheels for a proper set before I even started the car up.

Otherwise, very nice -- I think black was far and away the most popular color for the last gen of accordion-bumpered Turbos.

I love the Fuchs wheels. But the original finish was much better, IMHO.

But doesn't the chrome just scream 1986? My recollection of 1986 is vague at best as I was 4.

you are correct...the wheels look proper and are a period correct mod. the 86 was a nice -car but the 87-89 had the euro headlights and the 9" rear wheels that made it look a bit tougher!

my 930 has 11" wheels on the rear and i must say it looks to be straight off the track!

i agree w/ a previous poster, that the 930 is just proportionally right and to me personally, the quintessential road going porsche.

I thought all of the 86+ US cars had the 9" rears.

Just one of the problems with chrome on Fuchs is that it won't reliably stay on the wheel.

It eventually starts flaking off. Faster with more humidity.

Has to do with the metallurgy of the forged Fuchs.

no. 87-89 had 9" wheels on the rear. 86 still had the 7" fronts and 8" in the rear as delivered from the factory. many have been subsequently upgraded. as a note, the factory fuchs 16x9's are very desireable thus expensive in the secondary market.

Chrome and aluminum are dissimilar metals. To do it properly a barrier metal has to be plated on first then chrome over that.

I used to work in a shop that chrome plated landing gear for commercial airliners. These struts were steel but they did do aluminum bits from time to time.
The whole process was kind of fascinating.
