Right you are to notice the discrepancy. When I restored it, on the rotisserie and all, I changed the front directionals to Euro, removed the rectangular reflectors, and added the button lights on the sides up front. It was originally a U.S. model. Jim S.
NNO -Expanding on your question, my first Dino, 02832, was a Euro. It was purchased in Connecticut 1978. The second, 2900, acquired out of Indiana (1981), was U.S., and the third, 3002, a California car, is U.S. Jim S.

Helps?! Made me rethink about the whole originality thing. replacing a part is one thing, repairing some old rusted part is another, however, looking at at a part with a number that someone stamped, as belonging to my car, is altogether something else! Everytime I pull a piece out of the box, I look for a number first and think restore not replace. I will go as far as to add this, as far as the Dino is concerned, I am glad I did not seriously embark on the restoration thing when I had the chance, because in all probability I would have made some mistakes and replaced items that should stay on the car. My car now has an identity of its own not just something I have owned for xx years! For me this is a great thread, thank you!
This position of a body no. I only know for E-serie Dino and I believe early E-serie Dino don`t have it too. Regards Matthias
Synchro, well spotted. I went out and checked mine, yes indeed the number is on both doors..... Late 1973 Euro model. So the body number appears stamped on main body metal parts, trim and hand written on the fiberglass and metal panels. Why?, was each part marked up in advance of assembly or was the number stamped/written during assembly. Kevin
I think it was done before. As there is no replacement of the handmade parts against the same parts from stock possible, it would make no sense to mark them for replacement. But it make sense to mark the parts for assembly to avoid mixing the individual parts in the plant. Parts like the hood, doors etc. were handmade for the vehicle and just fit into this one. I measured different door panel length for about 10mm! These parts are made and the waiting for the paint etc. The number helps the worker to find the correct parts for the vehicle. Nico
I do have a fairly good idea. Send me an e-mail with your numbers and I will let you know if they are matching or not. Regards Matthias
How could a car have the incorrect VIN for a given body number unless someone cut out the VIN plate in the frame and welded it into another car?
these body transplants haven`t been so rare here in Europe, I know quite a few cases... lots of Dinos disappeared in the 70ties... ;-)
I was a bit surprised yesterday, when looking over a very original 14,500 miles 246 GT that belongs to a good friend to find the body number on the voltage regulator. Thought this would interest many of you. Car is chassis number 06950. Mark Shannon Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
lovely stuff, I found pieces of the same sticker/tape on a voltage regulator too but couldn`t identify any number... so more commen than we think, with late E-series....
