Foremost, it is a Toy Review Magazine. But it also has a dedicated Price Guide for Hot Wheels, Star Wars and other Action figures. According to the magazine, they have been around since 1991. As far as The dedicated area for Hot Wheels, they include 1 page of pics of the months latest releases, "Casting Call" page(s) showing all releases of a specific casting from the beginning to current with prices for Loose and Carded, a email letter section for those collectors (Price Guide Mechanics) that want to keep the Guide up to date with all Variations. They choose 1 Mechanic per month out of all emails that they receive for a free gift of a specified selection of cars that they show in each issue. In the price guide they show pics of almost all the wheel variations so collectors know how to refer to them. The magazine is pretty helpful. I have used it for about 3 or 4 years. But when all i really care to collect for the most part is the Ferraris, everyone on here is very helpful for those variations. I picked up mine for $1.97. I figure that isn't really to bad of a price.
I've found these over the last couple weeks at Wally's, Target, and TRU: Speed Machines: Corvette C6R Caddy LMP 911 GT1 Viper Lancer Evo Reventon 575 GTC Shelby GT500 Polizia Gallardo Acura NSX Audi R8 Auid TTS 599 GTB California Carrera GT Ford GTX1 Enzo I've found 1 Valentines Daytona, 4 Veyron's, 2 orange Murcie's (today), Saleen S7 (Race world), blue/silver La Fasta, and a Ford Thunderbolt. I also picked up a 50th Anniversary Asoton DBR1. They had one a few weeks ago at TRU but the card was bent really bad. This one's nice.
Finally made it out to Target today and took a walk past the Hot Wheel's. Luckily, I picked up a few of the Speed Machine's. I love that Police Gallardo! Here's my findings from today: Chris Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Found this at a Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market grocery store on an end-isle away from where HW usually are. Image Unavailable, Please Login
^ I forgot about that little area, will have to check that out next time. I went to ToysRUs earlier this evening, but I left empty handed, they had two cars that I would've bought, but I didn't feel like it, an orange Murcielago and a white ACR.
Always check the short card spots in the checkout line. Collectors rarely check them. The downside is the looks you get as you go from aisle to aisle checking the shortcards.
I haven't really bought any 1:64s in a really long time, sort of lost interest in the hobby. Looks like there's some great stuff out now so it's time to hit a Target or Walmart!
Cliff Notes: What is the best current value guide for Hot Wheels cars? I was looking at my cache of carded cars today and suddenly came to the realization that there are just too many damn boxes of cars that I never look at. I only display my favorites and those I display loose. I'm looking at a serious pile of cars here. My roommate emptied two plastic Walmart totes and two copier-paper boxes, counted the cars, averaged them together and came up with 225 cars per-tote and 150 cars per paper box. I have 15 totes and 8 copier-paper boxes making a possible 4,575 carded cars. I know there are some 1:50 scale and 1:43 scale cars mixed in, as well as oversized cards and boxed cars as well, so conservatively I figure the real number is closer to 3,500+/-. It is time to cull the herd. Knowing how I am, I'll pull 1,000 of those to retain them, can't let them all go. That still leaves 2,500+/- cars I'll be getting rid of. I made the mistake of mentioning this to a fellow collector a few days ago and now there are several collectors waiting for me to catalog what I've got and decide on a price. Last year I was offered a 90% restored 1970 Harley Davidson Sportster (runs/rides needs paint and fettling) for the collection, based just on opening a few boxes and letting the guy look at what was on top of them. Ever have to slap a kid on the hand because they don't get the idea of "look, but don't touch"? Try that with a 6'4" tall, 250lb biker with a bad case of collector's lust. This presents a problem. I need to catalog and value the collection, so I know what I have, but I've never cared about values before. I've never been in this for values or resale. I've always just enjoyed the cars as cars, their value to me was purely in how cool of a car they are. That said, I'd be insane to go into this without at least knowing a ballpark on values. So what is the best current price guide for Hot Wheels? I've never even looked for one before. Is there an annual book, or a monthly newsprint magazine (like for Baseball cards)? I had a peek at a local bookstore but didn't see anything worth a damn for values...
See my post - http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showpost.php?p=139332784&postcount=3552 That is a lot of cars. I'm in the same boat. But mine are old inventory from a business I shut down a couple years back. Even though you may find a value of these cars you want to get rid of, most collectors are only willing to pay 10-25% of the value. I was only offered $300 for 1000 cars. I have a lot more than that, so I am putting them on eBay even though it is taking a lot of time to do it. I finally found 1 on Saturday. you consider that a downside, I consider it to be quite funny.
Thanks! Missed that Lee's mention before, and yeah, I figured 10¢ on the dollar was about all I'd get really. Just need to figure out how many dimes that is. I always enjoy a laugh when I get those looks, whether they come in the aisles or when folks stop by the house and see cars everywhere. "Your kid sure has a lot of cars." I just smile and go "kid?" That black Gallardo is definitely my favorite car so far this year. That might change if I can find a Ghostbusters Ecto 1...
Maybe you should have traded for the Harley. The Ghostbusters Ecto 1 is in the same case as the Black Gallardo I think. I have yet to find any.
I have only found 2 of the short card Gallardo. No Full card. Eventually I will. If I find any Ecto 1s around here, I will offer them to you.
My first two Gallardos were short cards labeled Lamborghini Gallardo 12/52 "Premiere"... long cards are Gallardo LP560-4 03/10 "All Stars '10"... If you find an extra Ecto, let me know what you're looking for... Valentines Daytona maybe? Today I got a '10 New Models Fangula, an '09 Heet Fleet Custom VW Beetle, an '09 New Models VW Type 181 (Thing) and two of the Matchbox "Lesney Edition" cars, the '60 MGA and the '69 Cadillac Sedan DeVille. I must say the MGA is a BADASS car...
from Target today; bad cell phone pics as usual... Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Agreed. I've been checking religiously for it. I'll run across one eventually, but man is that a sweet looking car! Chris
I actually stopped at a second Target on the way home partly in hopes of finding another but no luck. Below are a few pics beside the regular GTO; $%@ cell phone camera... Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
sweet I I've been looking for that 288. I picked a new 5 pack the other day, califorina, 360, 250 gto, 355, and a 612.
Wow the Phil's 288 looks a lot better and more refined. I found another Valentines Daytona tonight at Wally's. It looks like they only put 5 or so of the V-Day's out a day.
