Who would have guessed it. What a different place and experience. Nothing but a warehouse where they brew beer, but they open up for special events. Yesterday from 1-3 PM for $10 you could drink all you wanted. Place was full of TCU coeds, live band, and cheeseburgers. Only way to do it is get a 10 person table for $100. They keep pitchers full on your table of the various beers. The regular lines have a 10-15 minute wait per beer. They also open up for other events like today's game.

Not very big. Most people park on all the side streets.

The fourth picture cracks me up. It must have been "Take Your Kid to a Bar Day."

No offense meant, Rob -- I was trying to be funny. I have a 5 year old and a 3 1/2 year old -- they've been to their share of "bar-ish" restaurants...

I'll never forget the time I asked my young son to go downstairs and get me a beer. He was maybe 5. When I asked for the beer his response was "Bud Light or Shiner?".

    It's why you become a parent. :D

When we lived in Big Spring we dropped by the home of our pastor. His son was about 4 and while we were sitting in the living room he came up to us and asked "do you want a beer"?

After I got over the initial shock of this happening at our pastors house I guffawed. It was great. The pastor was red-faced..........

    Now, where is this place?

The address is 701 Galveston Avenue. It's just South of downtown, a few lights past I-30. When they're rockin', parking is out to S. Main - you can't miss it for that reason alone.

    Gotta love this part:

The local news just reported that a section of the roof collapsed at the Rahr Brewery from the heavy snowfall, looks like quite a bit a damage & might be out of commission for awhile.

Here's a photo from their FB page.

Mark is a fellow Mini Cooper owner & works for the Brewery. I thought I'd post his photos here to give everyone the overall extent of the damage. Looks like they might be relocating after all.

This thread certainly took a very sad turn. At least there were good times to remember.....and will be again, I'm sure.

This is one case in which I am sad to be right.

My prediction that Rahr's Saturday Afternoon beer tastings had jumped the shark has apparently become real. It's almost better that way. It was too awesome to have existed status-quo for very much longer. I'm sure the brewery will relocate and survive and thrive wherever it is, based on the awesome concept of the saturday "free" beer tastings, but it will never again be like it was.

Funny story... remember the thread where Manny and Tillman and I were welding on Manny's Mondial? Well after we were done that saturday morning, I told the guys, "my sister tells me about an awesome brewery where they give away free beer if you buy a glass" and we drove by, but I also thought it was a restaurant, and I had promised to buy lunch for some reason, and we were starving. Since all we saw was a white, nondescript warehouse, I told the guys, "no way, doesn't look promising, let's go to Chilis downtown." I've never been more wrong in my life about a place.
