So I'm thinking of learning a new language. My job has really slowed down and I find myself with a lot more time on my hands so figured what the hell maybe I should learn a second language. My question is has anyone on here used this system? If so how did it turn out? Before I go and spend $400+ I'd like to know how/if it works. Any feedback would be great. Thanks in advance.

P.S. I did a search but no one ever said if they tried Rosetta Stone or other and how it worked??

I expected to have more free time on my hands this winter as well and thought I would learn Italian. What language were you considering? Here is some information that was sent to me.

    Here's a comparison:

Here's the latest Tell Me More Italian version 10:

    5 levels:

2 levels only has 2 hours of interactive video.

5 levels has 10 hours of interactive video.

It does have a 20% off coupon on the publisher's website right now.

I haven't ordered one of the programs yet. That free time I was expecting, hasn't actually happened BUT I have learned the most important phrase in Italian.

    Prenderò quell'

That is what I will say when I visit the factory and make my selection. A girl has to get her priorities straight you know. :)

For what they charge for the software I would think they'd have tons of testimonial.
I tried their sampler package one time and could not get into their learning model.

I balked at the price. The Instant Immersion series is avaibable at places like CostCo
for under $30. I watch a couple of my kids fire up the program and practice their
Spanish. That qualifies as $30 well spent in my book.

Rosetta stone is over $400. It is hard to justify that in my book.

I got Rosetta Stone for German, really like it, picked it up right away. You wont be fluent but basic conversational skills will be picked up right away. After a few levels I was very surprised at my ability to hold a conversation.

    Highly recommend it.

I have used Rosetta Stone for German and Spanish. I really liked the way it taught you the basics. I would do it again for another language if I had to learn another.

How many levels did you go?? I see quite a few that have 1 -3 or 1-5 but it's about a 200.00 swing from one to the other.

    Thanks!!

I read a review on amazon that said you cannot sell a used copy on eBay and you cannot upgrade your copy.

By the way, I used it for levels 1 - 3 on German and Spanish. It is a decent program and worked for me, but YMMV.

Someone better let eBay know then, as there are over 500 relevant results for 'Rosetta Stone' in software...

Thanks for the reminder that I need to pick up the Spanish version though... headed to Jerez in April and I don't trust my wife's rusty espanol. ;)

Most public libraries allow free access to the whole RS catalog. It's good stepping stone to just play around with it for a while before deciding to drop $400. (except I am cheap/poor and just countinue to go to the local library.)
