OK, I've dug out THE bb book with all the chassis #. RB has this book as well 17839 is 1974 First 1975 car is 18315 End of story
well if it does have a 512 transaxle, then makes sense it was motor show/press car, 365 transaxle wouldnt handle dropping the clutch at 5000rpm to many times
This is how I remember it - probably not all correct The blue car (on the cover of SCW) was the motor show car from England and was either the first rhd car or 2nd. When Molly had it theyd changed the transaxle and due to some reason or other the gears were all around the wrong way. I think first was where 5th was and second was where 3rd was etc. Very bizarre!! The car was charcoal then too.
This car back in UK now. Laki Harris installed the 512 trans when he owned it in the mid 80's. It was a common mod, because the 365's had a rep for failures, which was later revealed to be a furphy, the problem was they got the oil capacity wrong. If you overfill (by 2 litres from memory) the trans lasts just fine. Harvey P has original box and its perfect. He drives it as intended too. Gearshift back to front not Laki's fault, cheapskate maintenance by Molly. No 356/512/TR transaxle will stand "launch control" starts, because of the design of the diff carrier. The torque splits it apart. Whole thing was a bad compromise, they could have used a conventional transaxle and made the car more cab-forward.
