    Gary,
We have salt here but we also have wacky weather! After the snow, we had a bit of rain which washed the roads. I was able to get an afternoon of driving before fog and more snow. Now I wait.. Gus (Espada 8616)

    Hey Gary,

What's going on with that last shot with the hood and the holes?
I'm going to have to do mine someday and there are issues with my hood so I'm curious.

After stripping the bonnet we found hidden spot corrosion and or little hidden damage holes
So immediately upon exposing the aluminium skin they primed to stop any oxidation and it also helps visually to find flaws.
not shown in these photos are two one inch cracks caused by no fold over of skin material near the wiper location edges . If you look underneath the folded over skin comes to a V there with no reinforcement. I think years of picking the bonnet up from one side or the other has eventually allowed this to rip. This has now been welded with new aluminium and is ready for some grinding. I have asked them to leave the bead of welded aluminum under this area to provide support that was never there before . This will enable me to pic up the bonnet from whatever side I am on and not worry about flex and an eventual new crack . If you look at the bonnet during idle it flexes kinda looks like a wet potatoe chip in the wind! all the way round the rest of the bonnet perimeter the metal is folded over nicely . A little prevntive medicine.

And if i get tired of all this I can weld on some legs, spread on a checker table cloth and serve 14 on here for dinner its so frikin massive.

    Oh yeah!

We should make it a concourse event at Le Belle Machinne next year.
The food gets cooked under the hood with engine heat. No shortage there ... Then it's served on a table cloth on top of the hood.

I may be little late on this subject but I installed this product in summer 2008. No cracking, dirt cleaning problem (so far)... The pattern is too big and square, color pretty close, surface not so smooth, pretty tricky to install. Not perfect but closest I can get. I've seen this installed in many Espadas, including Kirk M. ex-car.

I remember seeing the real exact original material in the Re-Original Inc. catalog at Pebble in 2008, but it seems that this material is not available any more... :(

great pics Phillipe and very timely in fact ...

After at least 2 weeks on the phone with George from singer safety I have decided to get him to produce the blanket from his SC32 material which looks very close to yours shown except it has been rated at 500F. I just don't want to have to worry about cracking due to heat down the road as the other stuff is only rated at 180F. it works out to just another 100 bucks approx...So with that we then went on to discuss "THE PATTERN" again as late as today The deal is their machine can only make one pattern as shown . So I have opted for mine to be bound only around the edges measuring 60 inches by 72 inches shipped with NO pattern and I am going to have the correct diamond pattern sewn it. This will result in the cost doubling but remember I said I am only doing this once. When the old blanket came out it came out intact but in three separate pieces. these will be used a the guide to make the new ones a virtual copy of the old . I'm picky ok....

    Gary,

I have a friend who had this replaced on his Daytona. He had someone sew the correct pattern into the material. He won't be back in town for a couple more weeks and I can ask him about it if you want.

Have you thought about posting this in the technical section here? There are a lot more eyes on there than on this Espada thread. Keep bumping it over on VLG too.

The old pieces? Do they have the same fabric on the back side? I'm surprised it all came out without it getting detroyed. I think I'd make new patterns and see how THEY fit as the originals maybe distorted now or weren't all that good to begin with? Quality was not a Lambo hallmark in those days.

I think you may be over worrying about the temperature. I just can't image Lamborghini using anything all that exotic way back then.

Thanks for doing all this research work.

there is no backing behind the silver stuff just glued on fibre glass backing . At least thats what i found when i removed mine and because it was so beat up and had the original pattern i am assuming its there since day one.
I have already made a comittment with a local guy to have it sewn but thanks for the help .

Need a favor espada dudes of the world!
Picked up my door handles yesterday from the plater /polisher and when he returned them to me they were disassembeld completely. I expected him to do this however I also expected him to put them back together .WTF !!! he told me that is my problem and handed me a bag of little parts and springs. Then with supreme arrogance excllaimed " your the assemble i am just the polisher , so your on on your own on this one". in Canada these guys are known as dickheads".
so With that anyone who might have a pic of the backside of an assembled door handle close up would help me greatly>

    Thanks in advance

    Gary

Just get a rope dude ... Just tell us where and when.
I guess you really are on your own.

Make sure you add him to the database of trusted vendors ...

How many pieces are there Gary? The swinging handle & base, a spring, a lock cylinder and a couple of pins?
