Why not just leave them as is, and then just drive them on the other side of the road?

Here in the States it is not uncommon to see people driving right hand cars on the left side of the road. The trash trucks, and mail carriers all have right hand drive. Mainly to make there job easier.

Anyway, I don't think it's worth the time, effort, and money to convert the cars over. Especially if you are ever planning on bringing them back.

I agree. Just leave them alone and enjoy them the way they came out of Maranello :)

I wish I could, but the regulations state that it must be converted in order to register them. ie in vic Australia.

You WANT someone to exchange their RHD parts for your LHD parts? :D:D

Or you just want to convert your cars from LHD to RHD? :D:D

Have you thought about sourcing RHD parts and re-selling your LHD parts? :):)

Sorry chaps, cant do LHD in Aus. :(:(

That is why you dont see any 288, F40's, F50's or Enzo's registered on the road in Australia. :(:(

The car has to be 30 yrs old to be able to be registered on the road. Thats if you're lucky. :D:D

Are you moving back to Australia permanently Ferdy??? :):)

Yes, I am moving in permanently, and will be applying for personel import permits for them , luckly for me one of them is in my wifes name, as they only allow one per year under that scheme, i beleive that the 360 F1 will be easier to convert, as the handbrake lever and center console will remain plus no clutch issues. I got both of them for a good deal as car here are pretty cheap, chk out this site, q8car.com gives you an idea of what they cost here,

Ok mate, fair enough. If its a permanent move then you're ****ed. :D:D

I actually reckon the 348 would be easier to convert. Just a guess. ;);)

I know that website WELL!! I check it out all the time and drool at the prices of cars over there. :D:D

I also thought about importing one from there and then converting. Just have to source the RHD parts or kit. Havent had any luck though. :(:(

If anything, I reckon you will have to try and buy a wrecked RHD 360 and use parts from that convert your LHD 360. Then sell whatever is left on Ebay etc..etc

In doing that, I dont reckon it would be economical to pull off even considering how cheap your cars were. :):)

Im not sure what you can do mate. I seriously doubt anyone is going to trade parts to pull this off. But there maybe someone out there with the same dilemma. :):)

Good luck with it buddy. I wish I could help you out. :):)

HAHAHA... they used to do that in Italy in the early 1900's.

There are signs on the Great Ocean Road reminding people that we drive on the left side :p

Only 30+ year old cars are allowed to be LHD in oz so it really limits what people can import.

To the OP, if you plan on selling them you will struggle to sell them, imported ferraris are hard to sell at the best of times without a decent discount vs local stock but no-one would bother touching a converted ferrari in oz.

Really depends how long you plan on keeping them.

Also the scheme has changed, as of November this year it will be 1 car every 5 years and you have to prove you are returning permanently.

    Anyway good luck :)

    Okay how about this one.

Instead of spending the time and money converting then over, why not sell them and then buy a RHD car/s from England? Now it may not seem plausible, but why not add up the expense of the conversion, compared to selling the LHD and rebuying a RHD? It may be an even deal, and could save you some money, time, and trouble?

Well, without getting into it TOO deep. He can sell those cars, but then he is stuck with importing a UK Ferrari and paying all the taxes associated with importing one. :):)

Living in Kuwait for over 12 months, entitles him to bring one car back to Australia with him without having to pay tax on it. Something along those lines. :D:D

UK cars a cheap, but not Kuwait cheap. :D:D

They are as real as it gets mate! :D:D

Something you guys can do as ALL your cars are also LHD! :):)

    We are ****ed here!! :D:D

I could have 6 Ferraris parked in my garage at those crazy Kuwait prices!:eek:

He's in the Middle East somewhere.

If he was over here in the States I would have been happy to show up at his garage and heckle, er...... I mean, help him :D work on the car just for the fun of it. I've never done a conversion before so it would have been interesting.

    But.

Since you wanna do a swap I think he has found an easy solution.

Thks guys for all the feedback, now you know why i own two. I also have 2 911 turbo, 1980 and 1991. and a 1989 911 cabrio. had these for a few years as well. A car nut as most of us are, luckly i am handy with fixing most of the defects with some help from the forums too. most of the older cars are shipped out of q8 by the expats who come out here for work, thats why you might not see the older cars for sale. I wish I could take my collection all to aussi, but they just dont understand.

Exactly.. Although, I think you can register a left-hand drive car in Western Australia or in the Northern Territories.. if you have a friend in either of those places, you might see if you can register with their address maybe????

Can be done that way and its VERY common!:eek:

A car can be registered in ANY state of Australia if it is over 30 yrs old. :D:D

WA and the NT the car only has to be 15 yrs old. :):)

Trouble is, you have the register the car in your name, in that state. :):)

I think you have to register the car in your name and supply an address in that state to get rego. Perhaps he should move to WA or NT, rent a place there to get an "address", register both cars then get the **** out of there!:eek:

    http://www.dpi.wa.gov.au/licensing/yourvehicle/1384.asp

    Australian residents
From January 2003 new provisions have taken effect relating to Left Hand Drive (LHD) vehicles in WA.

If you are a resident of Australia and you import a LHD vehicle, you may need to convert the vehicle to RHD before it can be registered if your LHD vehicle was manufactured up to 15 years ago.

However if your left hand drive (LHD) vehicle is less than 4.5 tonne, and was manufactured more than 15 years ago, it may be possible to register it without the need for a right hand drive conversion. It must however be intended for personal use only.
