Engine/power train swaps in 360?

    Hello;


    I have been told that one cannot install a F430 engine and/or transaxle into a 360 F1.


    Does anyone know what the physical limitations are?

    If you want to do it properly it is a major major transplant and drags in so much stuff such as body and suspension work that its just way easier to buy an F430.

    Technically yes it *can* be done but mostly its just not worth it, perhaps only if you have a complete F430 to strip down for parts (written off, say from a major roll or something similar) to start with. The F430 engine can indeed be fitted to the 360 chassis, however caution is the watchword here, its never a straight forward swap and it runs into huge numbers of parts and wiring looms.

    1. Full exhaust, manifolds, cats, backbox, tips needed.
    2. F430 Engine
    3. Engine wiring loom
    4. Engine ignition ECU's
    5. Airboxes & afm's
    5. Dashboard clocks
    6. TCU & looms
    7. E-Diff, loom, ecu & driveshafts
    8. ABS ecu
    9. Suspension ecu
    10. Suspension springs
    11. F430 Steering wheel with manetto, engine start loom & button.
    12. Engine bay + other stuff...
    13. Rear quarter panels (left + right) (!!! for enlarged air cooling intakes)

    Gearbox is common to both models.

    I would have to agree.

    The F430 is quite a bit of improvement over 360 in terms of performance. I am wonderfing how does a 360 with bolt ons (exhaust, hi-flow cats, intake) compare to a stock F430?

    What about engine / power train swaps from 360 CS? Is that possible?

    The 360CS uses basically the same engine and gearbox from the regular 360 with some fine tuning so there is no point to this question.

    Why would you want to go to all the trouble of swapping the engine (assuming you could even get a CS engine btw) when the Modena one is essentially the same except for improved software, some blue printing, port polishing, etc. and marginally higher compression ratio pistons. If you want 420hp out of a 360 there are far lower cost ways to achieve this with the standard engine.

    All depends on how thorough the execution was. Essentially its the same F131 chassis so it can be made to work but way to much effort IMHO...

    From a pure straight line performance perspective the F430 will have the upper hand.

    You can ofcourse drastically improve upon the stock 360 by following the route Ferrari took with the CS and before that the Challenge and N-GT Michelloto cars. I.e. weight loss, aero, grip, power, etc. An enormous amount of improvement can be made to a 360 and 430. Its worth remembering the 430 was no faster around Fiorano despite the power advantages when a lightweight optioned CS lapped quicker. Obviously tires had a big impact here and the carbon brakes really helped to not to mention the stiffer suspension and improved aero.

    Sadly, it is getting much more difficult to do improve on newer models such as 430 Scuderia andthe new 458 due to increasing dependencies on software and pre-programmed computer 'estimation' models about how the car should be behaving in any given situation. You'll need to first reverse engineer and understand all that before you can make substantial improvements and most will likely mess this up
