Pete, tell em "they're dreaming" Crackhead pricing!! +355! Looks like everyone has finally woken up to themselves.
I must admit I was somewhat interested when people discussed a "blue Autokraft spyder from NZ", owned by Neville Crighton and for sale at the new Ferrari showroom in Sydney, on here the other week. I thought I knew exactly where the 11 Autokraft cars were and their colours. Mine was the only blue one, most are red as you would expect. Although the british racing green UK car has just been painted the same colour as mine. So I went to the showroom to look today and was relieved to see that the car in question is in fact the well known John Maher conversion (done in 1986) that was in Melbourne and Sydney up to 2006. This was originally a white coupe with an infamous glass moonroof and I was an underbidder when it was auctioned as a basket case in 1985. Very hard to beat John M to a car... on the other hand, it was a major restoration and he does beautiful work. I fell in lust with this car when I next saw it, in 2005, when John S owned it, which got me started on buying one. By my count there are 5 converted coupes in Aus and I'm glad this one has come home. Image Unavailable, Please Login
And am I the only one who thinks the F & M car sales must need a boost; last weekends' Aussie social pages had pics of various 'celebs' (LOL!) at the "Maserati" opening in Sydney; exact same pic was run in the previous week's edition as the "Ferrari" opening in Sydney...
Nope, they obviously paid a PR firm to promote the new showroom and this is exactly the sort of trick you can play with the imbicilic press in NSW. I have no idea how the economics of selling less than 100 cars a year from a $3million showroom work... and it's hardly in a sought-after real estate location.
Good point. I'd estimate the fitout to be worth $3m. The building probably the same again. There is an enduring capital value in the building, but the fitout will wear out in say 5 years, 10 at best. Let's assume they're servicing $6m debt = $500K pa. $650K pa fitout depreciation, plus $1million for staff, plus overheads, call it $2.5million per year equaals $25K per car. Probably does work after all.
I bet it doesn't work on $30 million. I suspect that there is also a compulsory fitout requirement from Ferrari that will ensure the fitout lasts 5 years at best, and I reckon the fitout would be much more than $650k.
who knows, but talk about a car with nothing going for it High K's (Most Ferrari owners would pass straight away) F1 as rare as every other 360 F1 being sold Colour probably not the most popular choice either. that thing will be hard to move IMO
thats if they actually make 25k on each car.......plus kickback from the manufacturer at end of each fiscal year......kickback on finance. But my mail tells me the contract for a ferrari dealership is 12 months and is renewed each year...............god only knows how the dealer in SA survives, service is ****, no stock (or stock that has had its 3rd birthday) and how many ferraris would be sold annually in SA....maybe 10 or 15 at best?
offers above 5 Last one (Straman conversion = minimal chassis reinforcement) sold here for mid 4's I can only endorse their valuation.
is it better value than a normal Daytona? I'm thinking cos its an aftermarket conversion that it would take away from the price of what is a good car
It's something of a conundrum. Should a cut car be worth more or less than a coupe? In practice, they've always maintained a premium, but they take longer to sell. Nobody is going to convert a coupe nowadays (a good thing IMO) so we have a finite supply of converted RHD cars, most done in the 80's. According to the UK registry, which tracks these things quite well, there are 20 converted cars. Probably 22 counting the black Parlby/Straman car and the Maher car we're talking about here. The later Autokraft conversions (after Kevin O'Rourke and Brian Angliss left) were very poorly done, often on coupes that were in a poor state to start with. So that brings the population of good cars down to 15 at best. So, if a person wants a RHD spyder, it's a matter of what cars are available, what the alternatives cost (cut 275's start at 600K pounds, 275GTS's are fast heading towards US$1m) and what they're prepared to pay.
Ian,I see John Maher has a number of GTBs to his name going by the register. Is the car you are talking about the ex(very)Larry Horowitz red coupe. If so I can add some very interesting history to that car. Back in the early 80s I was working as a formworker on the (then)Calvary hospital in Cairns, across the road was an upmarket address of Curzon House.Regularly sighted and heard, downchanging, was a red GTB that resided there. The story(genuine) is as follows;Larry was a one time bodyguard for Elvis(yes the one who,s still alive),he owned a yacht called Onza which was once owned by once upon a time Taswegen Errol Flynn. The GTB was,can you believe this, brought over to Aussie with Larry as DECK cargo on the yacht!! When the car needed some work it was taken to well known speedway mechanic,Eddie Chellingworth, who had a young bloke there named Col.Col is very good with carbys, you know...proper Ferraris' have those... When I built my shed in Tolga the mechanic next door put on another bloke to help him out, you guessed it...Col.It,s a funny world in which we live sometimes.
