I put this thread here because here are the specialists.

I saw this weekend this 288 GTO Evoluzione but they couldn't tell me if it's a real Evoluzione or a replica.

The engine was placed in the length but I couldn't find any chass.nr.

I know there are 5 Evoluzione's made and I thought there are still 3 existed.

One was from J. Swater but that one is in England now.

The one I saw was at the Dutch Ferrari Dealer Munsterhuis.

If it's not a original Evoluzione is it then possible that it is still a original Ferrari with parts from the factory or something.

I hope someone will help me to identify this car.

At first view, I would say it's a reconstruction with original Ferrari parts.
But we would need the help of a true specialist like Marcel to confirm.

    this is a conversion,i would say of the 328 with s/n 62957.
    The real one are s/n 50253,70167,70265, 79887, 79888 and 79889.

    regards

It is easy to see from the guages, shift gate+lever, modified 308 QV intake plenum etc. that this is a REPLICA.

    Ivo,

Why do you think it is 328 with s/n 62957. I don't know the history of this specific car.

I have to mention that the engine was placed in the lenght.
A 328 doesn't have a enige placed in the lenght.

Can you tell me more about the s/n 62957.

Moved it to where it belongs, but left a redirect for the "specialists" over in Vintage. :)

308 conversion, but a nice one at that. Still a "fake" 288 Evo though....

First, I believe there are four original 288 GTOs remaining. One is in the Galleria, the other three privately owned.

Second, the car in the photos does look like a recreation based on a 308 or 328.

Jim Carpenter made 3-4 of of these replicas, actually very nice. The molds were incredible. One of the replicas is in the USA, in the basement of a Ferrari Dealership. The other 2-3 are in Europe.

I bought the molds back in 2005 from Butch in Phoenix, who had purchased JC's business. I kept them in a warehouse until one year ago. After my 2007 accident when I realized I would never have time to build one of these replicas, I sold the molds back to Jim Carpenter last year. He intends to build more of these on order.

If you look at the slant vents behind the rear wheels you can see the difference. Also the wheelbase is off, the 288 GTO Evo was built on the 288 GTO street wheelbase, abour 4.3 inches longer than a 308/328.

Just to be pedantic, the proper name for these cars is "GTO Evoluzione".

There is no "288" in the name!
