Hey all, My girlfriend and I will be in LA for a week next month, and I was wondering if anyone had any specific recommendations for things we must do while we're there. I tend to go to LA once or twice a year to just relax, but never really do anything than Six Flags and the beach. Any restaurants or events that are a must-do? (I'm not looking for tours of stars homes or anything like that, just enjoyable things that I don't have in Seattle) Thanks, Colin
There's always some good museums to check out, if you are into that sort of thing. There are many choices, car, art, etc. If you want a good meal, go to Spago, if you haven't done so yet.
You'll want to mix some known with the unknown. What beach[es] do you usually go to? Where will you be staying? This will help with recommendations for places you'll have an easy time finding along with those down the road and back again.
I'm staying at the Beverly Wilshire Four Seasons. I usually spend time at Venice/Santa Monica depending on where my company wants to go... I'll travel anywhere within an hour or so for something to do. I like almost any food out there, honestly. I'm always willing to try something new... and I know I'll get torn apart for it- but I like good American cuisine myself. I've got both the Griffith Observatory and Getty Museum on the list... where else? I've added Spago to the list of restaurants. A friend who is meeting us down there has recommended "STKla"... any opinions? Thanks all
I didn't know. Just based that on the Magic Mountain mention. Have a Sunday Al Fresco lunch at either Clafoutis, Petit Four or Cravings on Sunset Plaza. You'll see every car imaginable, maybe a celeb and a good meal to boot!
I've been there. It's good. Depending on your budget though (sushi gets $$$$), I think there are better places in LA. A few others: Matsuhisa, The Hump, of course Urasawa ($$$$$$$$$) ...
Someone suggested Jerry's Deli: The only people that go there now are "porn stars" and "wannabies"..McArthur Park..a great place to pick up some used disguarded needles..we always used to send an advance party to pick them up before we "shot" on locations there so that the shooting crew wouldn't step on them accidently.
For a fun evening of music and dining, the House of Blues on Sunset, West Hollywood. They have a private members restaurant, called the Foundation Room. Very unique and exclusive bar and dining. (If you want, PM me to get access). Another fun dining/hangout is Borracho Cantina, in the Sunset Plaza area. They have two happy hours where all the food is 50% off. Well located on Suset Strip. Good eclectic Mexican food and ritas. Cheers!
Hey, if you like guitars, go to Guitar Center, walk past the shredders and go into Vintage Room. Quite the selection. Once out of there, walk around corner to the 1/2 dozen boutique vintage shops.
LA has some great comedy clubs - although, you may be underage for that (?) and even with the old school feel, Magic Castle is still one of my favorites. If those places are 21+ try dinner at Craft http://www.craftrestaurant.com/ or Water Grill http://www.watergrill.com/ And make the drive to OC for Cars and Coffee Saturday a.m., then up to SCS Sunday!
I would, I should- especially since the Sonics left town... but they're on the east coast while I'm there. Considering the Clippers (I know, they're the Clips- but I was a Sonics season ticket holder... at this point, any NBA is good) I had Matsuhisa on my list, don't know why I took it off- I will make sure to go. Yeah, I'm 21. Roller coasters are pretty fun regardless of age though (Except for the whole motion-sickness thing I've developed over the past few years) I will make sure to put those down and check them out. Got it. These were the types of places I was looking for lunch... thanks wax. Excellent, thanks for both recommendations. -Colin
Sounds like a pretty popular option- although we can't decide if we're going to stay the weekend or not yet... both restaurants are on the list. Thanks! I frequent Guitar Center here in Seattle, I'll have to do that. Thanks again wax. I am looking into it and will PM you if need be. Got down Borracho Cantina, we will probably be going there- looks like a good atmosphere. Thanks a lot! Thanks all, Colin
