I hope they use a higher output version of Audi's new high-tech supercharged V6 like in the 2010 S5 Cabriolet...that is one sweet engine...plenty of power and 17-26mpg to boot.

For 2011, the 2010 S5 coupe's 4.2 v8 is being replaced with the same 3.0 supercharged v6 currently in the 2010 S5 Cabriolet. So I was hoping Audi was going to supercharged v6 engines for both its S and RS cars.

Give that sucker the v10! COME ON!!!! or a turboed V8?

RS4/6/8 need 550ish HP if they want to compete with the rest... caddy CTS-V coupe 556hp, BMW M6 currently 500hp, soon to be over 550hp IIRC, CLK63, etc...

Officially Official: Audi RS5 hitting Geneva with 450 hp 4.2L V8

snippet: "...The 4.2-liter V8 remains naturally aspirated, but its breathing has been improved to bring the maximum output up to 450 horsepower and 317 pound-feet of torque...The RS5 comes out the factory with the ability to accelerate to 62 miles per hour in 4.6 seconds...there is nothing to announce right now about plans for the RS5 in this market..."

Why? I supercharged V6 is lighter and can be made to have jut as much HP and more torque.

For a street car, torque rules. The 3.0 supercharged V6 in the S5 Cabriolet has 325 Lb/Ft of torque, although it only has 333hp...

my son has had 06 s4 since new and we both love it but rs5 is a no go in comparison to its competition. its just way too heavy esp in front for handling required in this category. give me an m3. maybe if you live in snow belt and its only car you can have...

I'm glad that they chose the V8 even if only for the sound ;)

The only thing which looks out of place on RS5 are those rims. They look a bit too "tuner-like" for my tastes.

They remind me of the Chevy Camaro wheels, very similar shape and style.

Is this the true rival for the M3 ?

I used to think the S5 would fit that bill

The S5 is much cheaper than the M3... which can be a good thing or a bad thing.

I'd personally take the M3 over the RS5 too. It seems every ricer kid around here whose parents have money has an S5.

I have a 2010 S5 Cabriolet on order. It has 333 hp and 325 lb/ft torque. While it's HP is not up to M3 levels, it's torque still makes it a blast to drive. I went with the S5 as my soon to be new daily driver after test driving the following rag tops; M3, CLK55, G37, and IS350C. The S5 beats them all IMHO as far as looks, comfort, interior quality and size, trunk space and fuel economy. The soft top looks so much better than a retractable hard top and allows for much more room in both the back seat and trunk. Since I have no intentions to use it as a track car anyway, those are the qualities that I want rather than mere HP numbers. In any event, road test show that the S5 Cabriolet is plenty fast though at ~5.1 second 0-60mph times. The S5 interior looks and feels like it is in a car costing tens of thousand of dollars more than all the others. The awd its a real plus too. It will be my first Audi after three M5s and an M3 over the last 2 decades.

By me, it's a Range Rover sport on ugly ass rims.

I did see a new Phantom coupe on campus driven by these young looking guys.

The new model range is for the A5 to match up with the lower 3-series ranges, the S5 to match up with the 335CI and the RS5 to match up with the M3.

I took delivery of my S5 Cabriolet back in early January and it is indeed an engineering marvel well within its own right.

Just so that you know, "rumors" have it that the engine is underrated by Audi, much like what BMW did with their 3.5 Twin-Turbo engines. However, do keep in mind that the car comes with summer-only performance tires, so if you have any sort of plans on using the car on snow or wintery road conditions, you should at least consider getting performance all-season tires.

The car is deceptively fast and you will find that with the acoustic top up, the car is as quiet as any other cars in its market place. Here is an Audi enthusiast webstie : www.audiworld.com, if you are interested in joining one.
