    i want to get a street/DE porsche to use for PCA and NASA. right now i can get a complete running 1975 911 for $4k. it has some issues, obviously. i'm thinking of doing one of two things to the drivetrain and i'm hoping you guys have some advice.

    my two options:

    1. keep the original engine but replace the current trans with a 964 tiptronic trans (yes, i know, but i love tips)
    2. replace the current engine and trans with a 964 engine/tip trans.

    which of these two options will physically fit in the car? for the sake of argument, let's just say that i don't want to buy a 964 or a 993.

    For the price you would be paying for the 964 transplant on top of the cost of the car, you would fare better to purchase a 964 tip from the start. 964's are not very expensive and the tips are even less.

    You can't mate a tip with the original motor, different power curves/output...

    You can't really replace the motor with a 964 motor/trans either...much more wiring/DME/etc...huge $$$$

    If you are looking for a neat project, perhaps try to put a subaru motor in there! Folks have done it with 914's with fantastic results...

    You have any links to that? I have never seen that one before. I have heard of 911 motors going nicely into a 914 though.

    check with Renegadehybrids.com, pretty much kno what fits or can fit on the 901/915/G50 porsche transmissions.......

    I agree that getting into a 964 tip for low teens is easier than trying to fit a new tranny/powerplant into a 75. It's easier to rip stuff out than to put stuff in. You can always change the body panels and backdate it (look wise).

    thanks for the responses and links. too bad i can't just put in a tip and keep the existing engine. how much work could it really be to switch motors? how about a 3.2 motor and tip trans? :) :)

    Anything is possible with bags and bags of money.

    One option to have a tiptronic-like trans is to look for an older sportomatic transmision'd 911 made through 1979 I think. It's a manual but with no clutch pedal.

    How about getting a 993 for a track car, if you don't want another 964?

    Call DC Automotive. They specialize in getting cars track-ready. They've done one for me.
    They have motors galore and they can do all the mods for you in their shop.
    You're not too far away in VA.

    hmm, sporto, thought about that. maybe i can convert the 75 911 that i'm looking at to sportomatic. as for 993, if i can find a decent car for under $20k, i will look into it.

    groovy, i will check out these guys.

    A good sporto isn't bad once you're used to it. It actually won several rallies in the 60's.
