I just hit 25k miles on my 355 and want to put as many miles on her as possible. I know that some of you brothers have over 40k miles on your 355s and I am wondering as to what kind of costs you have had to operate over that time frame.

I bought mine at 18k miles in 2008 and have spent $21k to make her right, replacing all the parts that go bad.

Will my QV rebuilt headers, Hyper-Flow cats, clutch, and Quicksilver exhaust still be ok at 40, 50, or even 60k miles?

I don't mind doing a $10k service every 4-5 years, but when other things go wrong those bills can add up quickly. Any significant and costly repairs when these cars age? I do have the F1 tranny but it hasn't given me any problems at all.

Inner CV boots will need tending in the next 5 to 10k...just from heat cycles, the shields are really too small to protect them much. The rest is kind of a crap shoot...but when you do the clutch next time, use the Hill Engineering throw out bearing, if you haven't already.

What's the part/labor cost for the CVs?

You'll no doubt hear all kinds of things but my experience was that it's about $400-600 per side to have it done.

    Just hit 45k this weekend!!!

I did a cv boot myself on one side, there's a part from Pegasus Race supplies that's cheap, maybe $30 ish iirc. By Ferrari standards that's practically free :D

Can someone please explain what a cv boot is a does for the car? Sorry, I know very little about cars. I have an honest FCar mechanic--so I'm lucky. :)

The CV boot is a rubber protector that is fitted over the universal joint on the drive shafts, there are inner and outer CV's and all four have boots to protect them. The CV joint is also packed with grease, the boot holds this grease in place.

If a CV boot splits one of the early signs is grease escaping from the joint, it is thrown around and makes quite a mess. If left the CV joint will dry up due to loss of grease and this will cause rapid wear on the joint.

    Hope that helps. :)

Just about hitting 90k on mine. I will never sell it, and do not care about putting money into her. This is the best sports car period!!!!

I'm not inruiring as to who is going to sell theirs...I would like to know what sort of additional costs you have had to get to 90k miles.

Mine is new to me (42,000 miles) and I am still getting it sorted out.

So far, in addition to regular maintenance and a major, I have had the flywheel rebuilt, rear shock rebuilt, starter and alternator rebuilt, both fan relays replaced (both failed this week), motor mounts replaced, clutch replaced, transmission seals redone, front bonnets replaced, fuel injectors cleaned, turn signal fixed.

I think some of this is because the car was not driven much recently and was not maintained completely. My Bertinella is an early '95 and is over 15 years old. Some things like the motor mounts should be good for another 15 years or so.

I still need to get an alignment done.

Before I purchase the car, it had a clutch done once, valves replaced and headers replaced.

A compression test done about 1500 miles ago showed all cylinders to be between 195 and 215. I plan on driving it - a lot :) so I hope it will have many miles left in the motor.

I've done just under 20,000kms in a little over 2 years in mine. Total is ~61,000kms now.

    I drive the thing.....lots....

The numbers make much more sense if you use the car.

Had to do headers and a small hose in the heater unit.

Been simple servicing and this year I have my engine out. Looking forward to that one!!

The mechanical problems that i have had are the following of the top of my head.

    R/H L/H headers at 60k miles.
    Clutch bearing.
    Shock Absorber actuator (front left)
Power steering pump reservoir hose replacement.
    Alternator replacement 5 years ago.

Changed my belts every 3-4 years along with the water pump.
Change my oil every 3K miles.
    Fluids every two years.

Like you said, runs like a clock:)
