I've seen that car around that exact spot during the day. It's actually very dark blue and it appears to be a replica. There were some exposed metal panels when I last saw it. I've seen it maybe 3 or 4 times. It doesn't sound anything like the actual thing either.
In the eighties Koenig Tuning offered packages which removed the cheese graters and it actually looked great (then again I say that about everything Koenig did). Just one giant hole to suck in naughty kids (as Clarkson would say). Very cool I thought.
well, it was dark, I was in a hurry, and saw it briefly... never seen it before. Could be a replica. there is a Black TR in Glenview (at least there was one last year - shorter gal driving it!) ... and I loved the NSX! lets face it... that car made everyone "up their game". Car was reliable, could easily be driven every day, interesting shape (interior not so exotic)....
Sad start to the morning commute. RIP Officer Alan Haymaker My thoughts and prayers go to his family. Image Unavailable, Please Login
In my estimation RR has destroyed its image with this car. I think it's butt-ugly and thought so the 1st time I saw it a few years ago at a RROC event.
Rolls, (pre BMW) was a dying breed, outdated in every possible regard. BMW seems to restored the image and Phantom is one of the best selling cars in it's segment (Arnage and Maybach reduced to insignificance). It also drives like a real Rolls Royce should (and none since the Silver Cloud and previous Phantom ever did). I predict that Ghost will also be a runaway success (not so the Mulsanne).....
The Phantom brought RR back on the desirability map. No one wanted a Silver Seraph..And the Silver Spur before it was nothing more than a very expensive and outdated car for its day. My boss had one, and i dreaded every time i had to drive it. No brakes, 0 feedback , you were in a boat but without the luxury of having the ocean to move around in.
Saw a RR Phantom convertible parked in the court of the Elysian. Only other car visible was a highly desirable yellow Aveo sedan!
Excuse me, I'm not trying to be an educator nor a know-it-all, but the proper term is Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupé !
Agreed. I think the Bentley will sell, but the Ghost has a much greater aura to it. It just looks sharper looking. Sex sells..
I agree but, aesthetically I think it's a flop! Definitely not a pretty looking machine on the outside.................Mechanically superior to many previous RRs, but it's appearance is very unattractive to my eye. It almost looks like a cartoon rendition of an automobile!
I totally disagree! There wasn't a decent handling RR before the Shadow, and it was pretty scrappy too.
I'm not talking about handling itself (few buyers were looking for sports car handling in a Rolls anyway),rather that "Rolls feeling" that some call "wafting". Got a ride (in late 60s) in a gorgeous '65 Silver Cloud and that was my first experience of that phenomenon. It stayed with me until got a chance to drive a Phantom in '04, BMW managed to recreate and enhance that feeling so well that no other car can match it. Agree about the "cartoonish" design though.....
Wow, spot on. I enjoy reading your descriptions of certain cars and this small blurb couldn't have been stated any better. Empereror Skip, with all due respect to you, I like the new look Roller. The ones my family had were very raunchy and aged terribly despite constant care. The German influence in build quality is great. Maybe perhaps am I younger and didn't grow up with the Clouds and Phantoms, but standing side by side, especially today, the new Phantom looks like a polished brick and the older cars ratty tin cans. I am very much on the fence looks wise with the Supersports, but man that car can fly. I have seen them more and more zipping out of Foley to new buyers. The best thing about the aging of the Bent/Roller brand is something you and I would definitely agree on, Vermin went of of age and vanished.
Hi RocketBoy, to each their own and I know what you're talkin' about! Last I heard, Vermin went to GCB working for JA, the environment would serve him well! He always was a master of deceit....... Sparky (formerly known as Skippity)
You tried to make a 'FUNNY' but it didn't work! We all know that there isn't ANY Phantom that "Looked really good...."
