In the third picture what's going on with the leather just below the instrument housing and left of the paddle? That looks like shoddy finishing there.

I agree looks a bit shoddy, I think it is the excess leather when the steering column is retracted, that said they should do a better job of the excess bulk as it moves in & out.

458 Italia is amazing car, but there is only one problem, Lamborghini Lp560 is cheaper, faster and better looking.
458 is slower than scuderia on Fiorano racetrack , LP560 is faster than Scuderia on Top Gear racetrack, so conclusion is that Lp560 is faster than 458 Italia

So one's a little faster than the other. Big deal, so what? They're all suicidally fast so who cares? Seriously, how fast do you need to go? It's about how they feel when you drive them, not tenths of a second.

You might be onto something with the looks though...

"Looks" is very subjective and for every guy saying Lp560 is better looking there is another preferring 458.
Scud was equal not faster at Fiorano and had track tires that 458 did not and just because on a different day ,in different weather, was slower then Lambo on Top Gear track does not mean anything really.
When 458 is properly tested against Lp560,on the same track ,on the same day ,only then we could decide which is faster or quicker.
Otherwise it's just kiddie speculations based on different mags results.
Lambo is cheaper though and that is already established.
(But so is a Nissan GT-R).

    1) The LP560 isn't much cheaper than a 458: add the Carbon-Ceramic-brakes that come as standard in any Ferrari and the LP560 costs about the same.
    2) Official times in Fiorano are the same for Scuderia and 458, but even if the 458 should be slower, I really wonder who cares? These are two different cars for different customers.
    3) That a LP560 really is quicker than a 458 remains yet to be seen. I highly doubt that BTW.

    Andreu Tautou:

Are you serious? Your actually comparing two completely different tracks here..
The top gear test track is a fast track with alot of highspeed. Fiorano isn´t.
So you can´t say that just because the 458 is just as fast around fiorano it should be just as fast at TGTT?

Let me ask you this.. Do you think an LP-560-4 would stand a chance at fiorano?
Not a chance in hell is what i say m8.

And do you really think the 458 and the Scud is just as fast as an Enzo?
I think the 458 and the Scud is about 1 second quicker then the Enzo around Fiorano but since no car can be faster then the Enzo until the next gen comes Ferrari will say it´s exactly as fast..

Put better tyres on the 458 and scud and they would run circles around any lamborghini ever made.

Thanks for clearing that up! The 'Super Racing Seat' looked a lot more agressive in the illustration than what turned out to be the same type of seat in the photographs...

    Absent,
I don't understand your threat of banning him.
Andreu Tautou has the right to express a different opinion.... even if I disagree with the logic (and the conclusions) of his post. He was polite in his statement, even if it goes against common belief...
I hope we can keep this site open to people having different opinions (still don't understand what uuuuu did to deserve getting banned so quickly) - a competition of Ferrari idolatry is not very useful...

Now regarding the question lp560 vs. 458: I tested on the same day and on the same track the 430 and the lp560. The lp560 was vastly superior: faster, significantly more power, much better feeling of getting connected to the road (with the front wheels), much lighter steering than the original lambo. On that day, I drove also Aston Martin Vantage, Audi R8 V8, GT3, GT3 RS. The only car which was as impressive as the lp560 was the GT3 RS. Is it surprising? not really. F430 is a 2004 design.... was much better than the original lambo, but the technology evolves and the 2008 redesign of the lp560 changed the hierarchy.

Now... I believe that the 458 is vastly superior to the 430.... and that's why after hesitating between the 560 and 458 I placed an order on the 458: there is so much technology in this car that the lp560 looks very outdated in comparison (in particular the gearbox). On the design: I like both very much!

A 2-3 cm lowering should be enough for the looks (agreeing with amenasce), then add spacers at will, but don't overdo it! That way it will look like the first official pictures/renders with its superb stance.

The front plate is absolutely an issue, I hope Ferrari homologates the small plate or sticker on the front for as many countries as possible...

Anyway, the car is stunning, in a few years time I think it wil be considered as one of Pininfarina's greatest.

Thanks Arthobald for your really nice pictures and story.
