Need some help from you die-hard Le Mans 24h fans!

Will be attending the Le Mans Classic 24-hours race this year. What/Where's the best place to stay? I've been looking at hotels, but the nearest available hotel seems to be some 40 kilometres away... Can anyone recommend a nice B&B nearer by?

    All help appreciated.

    Hi,
I was two years ago at LM Classic and we only get a bad hotel something like around 100 kms from La Sarthe. For this year I'm not planning to go there but a friend from Portugueses Porsche Club told me that he tried to get a bed around and he could not get once on a 150 kms around.
But, if you can get away some confort, you can camping near the track....
If you need more info's let me know....

There's a little place, it was covered in Autoweek, the Ford team used to stay there in the GT40 days....they drove the race cars in from there!

It's about 30km down the road, decorated with Driver's photos from the glory years, do any of you know what I'm talking about????

It's a Mom and Pop place......

Man, I'll never find the article, ....anyone?

It probably books up two years out, tho.....

Indeed. I can't remember who it was now, but one of the drivers was complaining of a "high speed misfire". The intrepid chief mechanic accepted a ride back in the car so as to hear it for himself.

Apparently, at about 150mph, the jockey turned to him; "There - can you hear it?"....

"Hear it, man, I can hear the angels singing!"...... :)

    Cheers,
    Ian

I probably should have put the article onto the refrigerator, next to that Hawaiian Hotel......sigh.

....maybe a search of Autoweek archives would turn it up....it's been pretty recent.

Either you rest/sleep in your car or camper, or you take the TGV or whatever the east west train is called, and stay in Paris. I don't know if the train stops anywhere along the way where you can get off and walk to a room. But the train does stop within a 20 minute walk from the LeMans circuit.

It did a few years ago anyway.

I stayed at Novotel last year. Very basic almost like motel. About 30 minute drive via highway to the Bugatti Circuit.

We go to the 24hour every year and stay at the Novotel Gare Montparnasse and take the TGV to lemans then the tram to the circuit but spend Saturday nite at the track and sun early eve train to CDG and stay at the sheraton in the airport. SO much easier than driving!

it is 53 min by train

So it's like most nascar events?

I remember shooting the GP in Detroit, we could not get a room, but found one in Windsor, amazing how rates triple (at least) for any big event.
I know if I was going to LM, I'd plan on camping at the track, if they still allow it. My 'bucket list' has an entry to go to a road race at Road America and camp in the infield.
