I'm going to replace the door struts on the Countach this weekend. Mine have not completely failed yet. However, if the car is parked on a slight incline, or the engine is running, the doors will slowly start to come down.

Anyhow, I'm trying to find out how to remove the window cranks. I can't see if there is one of the those typical "C" type snap rings that I have to remove, or if they just pull straight off.... I don't want to break those silly things since they are NLA!

    Thanks!

Hi Mike, I went onto Lambo stuff and checked under 86 C/T QV. On page(Tav) 24 labled " windows and trims" it looks like there is a "C" clip behind the handle. What is confusing is it isn't a very clear picture and worse is the description name of the parts. It looks like #79 is the handle(NLA), #80 is the c-clip, and #81? is the cranking mechanism(NLA).
    I hope this helps.

Actually part 80 is a plastic spacer between the crank and the winder. I could not find any sign of a clip in the manual. Oh well.......

The handle is the crank from Fiat Argenta 132, then there is a plastic spacer and finally an Omega spring to clip it onto the crank dorn.

    Mike,

Give me a little bit and I will take a picture of the back side of the handle so you can see the orientation of the C-clip groove to the handle itself. Will try to post it up by this afternoon.

    Dennis

PS It will be easy as I have 2 new ones to take a picture of!!

Fantastic! Thanks Dennis! I've been thinking about purchasing a pair off of eBay, just to have around for when they break! hahahaha.... I just need to either have the new ones dyed, or take the leather off mine, and put it on the new ones.

    Mike

    Here you go.

As far as the ebay ones go (where I got mine), I contacted him and asked if he had black ones. He did and I bought them. "Never hurts to ask" ... A very important thing to remember!!!!

Finally got my window cranks back from the upholstery shop.

VERY NICE!!!!! They did amazing work.

They were able to find a leather that was very close to the Lamborghini "Champagne" color. It's a NAPPA leather called #AD811 Crema Nappa.

Once they had the leather they had to send the leather swatch down to a company in California that was able to "Skive" the leather. This is the process in which they take the thickness out of the hide and get it as thin as a woman's leather glove. This way they can wrap it around the handles and glue it into place.

So, how much did all of this cost? Here is how it breaks down:

$120.00 - (2) new window cranks off ebay
    $45.00 - 12" x 12" Leather
    $50.00 - Skive Charge
    $100.00 Labor Charge
    =========
    $315.00 for (3) Handles

I had them also cover (1) of my old handles that was still good, just so I can have a spare. So, basically it was about $100.00 per crank handle.

Expensive? I guess so, but at least they match the car! I've seem some white Countach's that have replaced their white cranks that broke with black ones and it just doesn't look the same.

Oh the price we pay to keep our cars looking original....

Here is a photo that shows the (3) newly wrapped cranks with the (1) broke crank in the original color and the leftover leather. The original "broken" crank is 2nd from the left (you can see a scuff mark on the knob).

Also, a shot of how the cranks looked when I bought them off eBay
