I did a search and found a few posts, but I'm looking for some hard opinions from
actual users of the 7D at a fairly high level.

I've read reviews complaining about the focusing system - operator error?
    Sporadic "bad cameras"? Systemic flaw?

Same with noise above 800 ISO - white dots at full resolution?

Also read about complaints about exposure - that -2/3 EV offset is required to
get the correct exposure without a ton of bracketing?

CF card slot issues? Read a review about a "bad door design"....

I've been doing pro and semi pro photography since 1982 - and consider myself
a power user. I don't want to pop two bills on a less-than-expected new camera
system (currently running a D90 so will be ditching Nikon if I do this).

Any similar "power users" on the board that can comment with specifics about
this particular model from their own experience?

    Thanks

I don't know much about Canon kit (Nikon guy here!), but I've got to ask - Why would you do that? Presumably, you've got multiple Nikon lenses that are still good, and Nikon has directly competitive body's, that you're already used to (Menus, setup options etc)

    Cheers,
    Ian

It's not so much a replacement issue as one of having a Canon bias going back
to the 1D I used to have that got stolen in an airport. I bought the 90 more on a whim
than anything. I still prefer Canon on the high end and have several Canon lenses
that are higher grade glass than I'm using on the D90. I'll still have both systems,
but likely would use the Canon more as it's my long time preference. I like their
interface better and the D7 has LOTS more stuff it appears than the 90. I'm also
considering the Nikon 300 as well.... but it's second behind the 7D

Fair enough. I'll STFU and be watching for the 'expert" answers.

    Cheers,
    Ian
PS - If you ever want to shift your Nikon kit, please gimme a PM! ;)

My girlfriend has one and loves it.

She hasn't had any issues with it so far (only had it just over a month). Granted, I don't think she has really played around with ISO or low light situations yet...

I second the recommendation to check out photographyonthenet forum... it is dedicated to everything Canon.

Thanks all for the input and recommendation of that site. I'll check it out. I really
am looking for serious users at a pro/semi-pro level involving more advanced stuff.

My thing with Canon DSLRs is sort of a love hate thing. I LOVED my old 1D (that got
stolen, along with $2k of accessories at SeaTac airport in May 2007). But it had annoying
quirks (inaccurate white balance & color temperature, required -2/3 or greater EV
offset, and other stuff) and I just want to find out if they have really improved things
    on this latest version.

    Thanks all,

    Jedi

This isn't a new or updated 1D, its like a 5D for sports shooters. With current Canons you have the entry level Rebels, XXD (10,20,30,40,50D) for more advanced users, and then the semi-pro stuff 5D for portraits/landscape etc etc, 7D for sports, then the pro level 1D for pro sports and 1Ds for pro photo journalism, portraits etc etc.

The 7D is really a pro sports shooter in a compact body.
