Unfortunately no. 28 days and that's it. Or so I was told. Trust Big Brother to plug all the loop holes when it comes to $$$ issues.
So what is the real cost of bringing in a classic? Say it costs S$100k. Must you pay another $100k tax + 20% duty on $100k + 7%GST on the whole lot which includes shipping expenses ect?
That's a nice anniversary version! Maybe more of this? Though I think the dark red one is quite sweet as well. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
i hv the details in my office but i think u can get it off onemotoring.com lta site. i believe its 100% tax on your purchase price but u know how these things can be quite err....subjective?road tax at 280 per year is main draw, esp for car with huge cc. like etype, 512 bb, rolls royce, bentley etc. if u pay the normal plate tax with usual surcharge almost 10k-12k per year. after 5-6 years ,your imported classic may be almost "free" from savings in r/tax alone. another benefit is the coe ,i think you only pay 10% of prevailing coe, this again can be big savings if coe prices are high. im not sure abt insurance but i can only imagine again this will be much cheaper!
Haven't found the classic car page on LTA yet. BUT this is interesting. As of Dec 2009, we have: 1822 Porsches 294 Ferraris 201 Lamborghinis 219 Bentleys (do u guys see so many here?) 138 Rolls 100 Astons (not bad!)
Finally found it. Once & for all for the records. Importing http://www.lta.gov.sg/motoring_matters/doc/Procedure%20-%20Import%20of%20Classic%20Car.PDF Conversion http://www.lta.gov.sg/motoring_matters/motoring_vo_policynschemes_classic.htm but looks like they haven't update it for years as GST is now 7% & not 5% Oh no good. Eg. S$100,000 (car price u paid) + shipping/insurance/any extra fees (eg. $8000) =OMV ($108000) + 20% cutoms duty then + 7% GST. So it's S$138672.00 TAXES AND FEES PAYABLE The following vehicle fees and taxes will be payable upon registration: Registration Fee = $140 $138812.00 Additional Registration Fee = 110% of OMV $257612 (with OMV @ $108K) COE = 10% of the relevant PQP $259612 (Let's say COE is $20K) Road tax = $280 per year (pro-rated to end of calendar year, if applicable) Radio licence = $27 per year (if applicable) You're looking @ paying S$259612.00 if it's a road worthy car. The road tax expiry date for all classic cars is set at 31 December of each year. The cars must also undergo and pass vehicle and seals inspection biennially.
Thanks for doing the sums. So will this now result in a deafening silence on FChat from us classic car dreamers? Our gov never lets a good source of revenue ever escape from them, do they?
Fong. You'll like this lightweight Eagle version http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Racing-Jaguar-E-Type-Lightweight-SOLD-SOLD_W0QQitemZ230382688099QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAutomobiles_UK?hash=item35a3e0d763 Oh well, it's a choice. I can be pretty happy flipping classic car mags in SBS bus. Some of those cars have pretty nice no. plates too so might as well keep em in UK & I remembered either me or someone said that u can buy an apartment there too (with the tax savings)!
err, we can look @ 10K pds car u know but bloody hell, even a BMW Isetta was priced @ 25K pds..... How about this? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/JAGUAR-E-TYPE-ROADSTER-TOTALLY-ORIGINAL-LOW-MILEAGE_W0QQitemZ190364215529QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAutomobiles_UK?hash=item2c529768e9 U think it's worth it to have it @ Singapore home for S$260K? & this one @ half price does look weird to me. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1972-Jaguar-E-Type-2-2-V12_W0QQitemZ380206266890QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAutomobiles_UK?hash=item58860f3a0a
As much as the E Type looks so beautiful just sitting there, I doubt I will ever look at it seriously
For 260k, you might want to negotiate with owners of existing E-types here and restore their cars. Might be cheaper depending on the sale price. I will poke around and ask. I know there was an E-Type that looked good but not taken care of mechanically. My dad drove it last year and was complaining to me about it. Forget the hardtop E-Types, they do look weird.
Likely car for me to consider http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1438478.htm I am always on the lookout for a clean example This one looks good but I am looking for a black one. Buy it now, and leave it in Malaysia or just try and age it here.
The grille? I think the 1st series is nice & cleaner I remembered the SP1234. It was in & out of AB then sent to my Merc workshop for some job in Alexandra. I remembered the boss showed me the windscreen wiper bottle? which was a battery sized glass container! Also saw a black E-type @ a gathering last year & took a pic of it.
Don't know what's that. But @ 450Bhp with such a body, it must be quite a drive. Yes, considering shipping to KL as well. Get my dealer to do all the documents. No GST & OMV sh*t Btw, hope u some of u guys aren't offended with my classic car obsession here. Must hve generated a few pages of non-Fcar
