    I could probably find one if I knew the specs on the OEM unit though it's kind of hard with the six bolt attachment. Most of them have 5. But, I guess if it was easy I'd have my sister do it. Would appreciate a pointer to the ohm rating for the unit. 80 GTBi. You got to have hope. Gauge goes to half way, then to zero.

    Did you check with Ricambi USA? There's really not a lot to one, I bust them in my boat all the time from pounding waves.......

    Just a thought, matching the gasket is always the hassle!

    just get yours out and fix it as it's probably a bad contact (i had one too once)
    be gentle with it as the contact i very flimsy

    when you're done you can check it out of the tank

    Thanks, Tex. Yes I have. Thats why I ask for anyone else having a crossover. I've got one thats close except for the mount (5 holes vs. 6) thats $37. Ricambi wants $400. Hard to tell if this will work with the gauge I have and I would hate to start replacing gauges piece meal.

    And the reason I know the $37 dollar one is close is I had the broken one out. Its not a wire. The sender has two wires coming out that, I would imagine, reads the unit in two parts. One wire goes to the middle and the other to the top.
    Why they would split this is a mystery but I'm sure someone on the chat is familiar with the concept and will enlighten me.
    I know this can be rebuilt but am really having trouble finding anyone with this kind of knowledge that is still in business. I know California's expensive but i cant believe everyone is moving to Nevada because of the tax rate. Seems like we have lost a lot of real craftsman with this last downturn in the economy.

    And the gaskets not a problem. Already made one. Easy to make one that fits with the unit out.

    Based on some information here, I got a replacement from Italian Auto Parts. It was for a Fiat 2000 of the era. It has two part numbers on it... 34285000 which I think is an IAP number and the part number on the Idro-Stop box itself is 01-204. I think it was $36.

    It is not a direct drop-in replacement but it is electrically the same. I had to cut the old sensor plate off factory sensor, do the same with the new sensor then weld the new sensor plate onto the old holder. Splice the wiring, minor fixing of the float... Works fine in the tank.

    I know this might seem extensive to some to do a fix like this for a few hundred bucks but I got to tell you this is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks for the info and I'm sure this will help more than a few people when they hit this wall.

    Maybe we can make a "fix it" stickie along with the parts crossover like the light switch repair and the belt change instructions. Heck, you could make the "Ferrari chat favorite member fixes" manual (yes, I dream the dreams).

    There is a red "low fuel" light in the dash guage, my guess on the 'second contact'.....

    Do you have a source on the west coast that supplies you? I am trying to get in touch with IdroStop in Italy but they list no suppliers. Got a request in with them but always want to short cut the red tape whenever possible. TIA

    BTW, great pics on the rebuild. Loved the re-engineered fuel tank connector.

    Yes, one wire sends a variable signal based on level. The other makes a dead short contact as you near to empty.

    I'll warn you that if you plan to re-wire this unit. Cut a small piece of the wire you intend to use and throw it in a jar of fresh gas. Let it sit a few days. Many wire sleeves these days will NOT stand up to the gas. It swells and gets soft and will fall off the wire. I ended up getting a couple of feet of teflon coated wire from an aircraft repair shop in town. Its a couple bucks a foot but you only need 2 ft.
