Seems like every P400 or P400S that has an SV front end get's described as "from the factory". This is not true or correct (take your pick).

I have heard that the after SV's came out, factory only made (had?) SV front ends as replacements and every time someone pranged one of these in the front, they got SV fronts as that was all that was available. Probably some truth to that. Some people preferred the SV fronts (for reasons that I personally do not quite understand), so that might have been another motivator. Whatever the case, they did not come from the factory that way.

I'm not guite following the question. Are you asking about the trim (like the door handle lever and scallop) or the door card (panel)? As noted, the pics show a P400 and a P400S. I am sure you know they went from black to chrome. Some sources say when the 400S came out, me thinks while the 400 was still in production (and I don't just mean the last X cars prior to).

That's what I'm trying to establish. Never mind my poorly-worded question. Do you know when they went to chrome?

Based on my limited selection of photos, the change to chrome occured between 3727 and 3883. I am sure others can narrow that range down quite a bit.

    Cheers Jim

I have a very late S #610 which does not have the SV bodywork, but does have the proper Bertone stamps. Bizarrely, the #609 production has the SV front bonnet, but is reported to not have the stamping. #612 also has the "S" bodywork, and #614 is an SV. I've also read that there may have been an "S" with an earlier production number, but a later delivery date, which may have had the SV rear.

I would tend to agree that as cars came in for a rework, they got the SV parts, but part of me also wants to think that there may be a few factory original "S" cars with some SV attributes. The delivery dates for some late S cars are all over the map, so much could have happened during production. Perhaps if owners can demonstrate that the front and/or rear clam shell has a proper stamping, or some other documentation such as a picture during delivery, then I think it gives credence to the authenticity of a hybrid "S/SV". Could there be one or two that sneaked out of the factory with mix-and-match bodywork?

No, sorry, I've not spent much time looking into that particular question.

Hell, I'm still trying to figure out if any of the early (preproduction) cars we delivered with Borrani knock offs or straight ears, and if they had leather wraped steering wheels or naked wood.

Poor man's Halon Fire-Out system. System is the Fire Bottle 500C, which is a short 12 1/2 inches. $450 from Summit Racing includes pretty much everything needed, except the bracket, which has to be custom made. This bracket shown is just a mock-up using a strip of metal from Home Depot, to test placement.

Pull handle located over left shoulder in cabin.

An alternate placement for non A/C cars is on the right-side sill in front of the right wheel well, with the pull handle coming out of the center console somewhere.

Yes some early cars were delivered with wood steering wheels wrapped with leather, or vinyl, and in some cases the wood was left naked. I think it was a random thing, as I have documented this quite some way into P400 production.

As it relates to the shorter eared Borrani knockoffs, I have been made to understand that this was applied to Swiss-delivered cars (such as yours) where the longer three-eared units were deemed pedestrian hazards. I have no documentation to back this up other than a handful of Swiss Miuras (P400, P400S and even SV) have used these Borrani units.

As if you underscore the Swiss-use Borrani spinners theory, here is the Swiss-delivered (to Karl Foitek in Zurich) Miura SV 5054. Just a theory mind you...

Very interesting. I always thought that vintage Lamborghinis imported in Switzerland had regular knock offs, but maybe I was wrong.
As a matter of fact, I had a lot of trouble when importing my Islero in Switzerland due to the fact it had the three eared knock offs. The customs officer and the MOT technician told me it is forbidden in Switzerland for safety reason. I thought this was only a recent regulation, but maybe was it older than that...

Feels like over-legislation. You'd essentially have to be under the tire before you'd be in danger of getting minced by the long knock-offs - and at that point, the knock offs would be the least of your concerns.

You are forgetting that by the advent of the Miura the authorities had viewed the movie "Goldfinger" and they had already made up their minds that wheel spinners are dangerous.
