I never thought I'd see the day that Lewis Hamilton and Ferdie Alonzo would wear even numbers.

I hadn't noticed this before. Did teams always opt out of using the number "13" for their entries?

Yes. [For at least as far back as I can remember anyway.]

Would you want to drive #13?.....

[Having said that, I'm almost sure many pictures will now appear to prove me wrong ;)]

    Cheers.

To answer my own question: Yes to Triskaidekaphobia in F1. Practice of not using 13 started in the 1920's after Delage team's big accidents while running the number. Last time used was 1963 (driver finished 11th in Mexican GP) and 1976 (DNQ - Divina Galica, British GP).

    http://joesaward.wordpress.com/2009/12/01/why-there-is-no-number-13-in-formula-1/

Here it is the 21st Century, even with all this modern technology the FIA is still mindful of the bogeyman...

I wonder why it still says BMW Sauber and not just Sauber?

I was at that race! IIRC, her choice of using "that #" raised some eyebrows at the time. I think it had something to do with her "success" with it in ski racing (from whence she came) - I don't know is she was assigned it, or started a race in the 13th slot and did well, but there were certainly "stories" about it.

    Learn something every day!

I also seem to recall that airplanes don't have a row 13 as no one wants to sit there.....

    Cheers,
    Ian

The entry was made and accepted in that name - I believe you've got to jump thru' all kinds of BS FIA hoops to have it changed after the fact.

Does seem crazy, and no doubt "embarrassing" to BMW.......

    Cheers,
    Ian

I used to sell brand new houses and noticed that many developers will not build a number 13.

    I see, thanks.

Dinan is going to run a Ferrari engine, so it's not so crazy.
