360 stock roll hoops allowed on track?

    Many car clubs will allow stock roll hoops (with sufficient bracing) such as those on the Boxster (and hopefully the 360 Spider), IF they pass the "broomstick" test.

    The "broomstick test" for rollbars is that with the driver belted in the car, with helmet on, there must be AT LEAST a broomstick-width clearance (or extra space) between the top of the roll bar and the top of the helmet. (assumes the broomstick is held horizontally while resting on the top of the helmet). This gives a sufficient margin of error in the event of a rollover, for most clubs.

    Does anyone know which clubs/HPDE organizers/tracks allow the 360 Spider hoops? Or those that don't?

    BMWCCA won't allow convertibles without a roll-bar. I think the stock 360 spider hoop should be fine, as long as it clears their 2in above helmet spec.

    Our own Ferrari Events (FOH::Risi sanctioned runs at TWS) only allows convertibles in the slow (Green) run groups.

    Depends on the group (who puts on the event). 2-inch rule with 'broomstick' is ok with some. Call or e-mail to verify though first make sure you have helmet clearance to be sure so you have the data before you call.

    So that explains it! Last time I was at a FOH event at TWS there was this white hair dude in a yellow spyder who just couldn't get the hang of unwinding from the carousel. He did a lot of tractor work that day. :)
