they pay import duty but no registration ... same as the four who bought the reventons recently ... registration only payable if u want to put it on the road ...

but still, VERY expensive to just keep at home & look at it ...

Actually, if u take it on a higher level. Coachwork is the name. The wealthy ones & I mean really wealthy ones still do it. Buy a new Ferrari then have a coachbuilt body. Zagato etc still in this business & here's some examples including our famous Jim's Enzo P4/5.

Here's one with the Japanese owner.

But you're right, I don't think I could live with one that leaks & stalls either so it has to be a good one. Hence the few marques that I'm looking @ & including early Bentley, Merc & Rolls that have distinguish cabin & quality.

The owner of the P4/5 is a member here, am I correct?
God that car is a beautiful thing - can't really say the same for that Japanese owner's car though. Looks like fugu. Maybe that's his point, being Japanese and all.

OK, this is OTT but I'm crazy enuf to actually have half my tiny land for parking & mini studio/workshop. I can have 2 cars in house & 4 more outside. The living rm will be on 2nd floor. Haven't told the wife yet :D

My intention on classics is semi investment so paying all the hefty taxes dilutes it. 7% GST is fine but 20% duty is not so nice & another 120%+/- is robbery. I don't know about u guys but I've lost enuf on cars to make sense.

Yes, the taxation is enough to be a major turnoff but since when did cars make any sense in S'pore? Much as I love them, the taxation and cost that comes along is enough to dilute desire, not to mention the hefty penalty of keeping past the 10th year.
BUT we live just once don't we? Better to live it out in M'sia though. And I can bet you the classic scene there must be heaps more colourful.

I do like the Zagato trademark though.

Yes, he goes by Napolis. Strangely, the Japanese chief designer in Pininfarina was asked to leave after this project.

As for Zagato, always controversial but their vintage stuff are really objects d'art. The arches on the rear wheels of this are very typical 50-60s roadsters & reminds me of the hips of a woman=sexy! Nose is well, 250...

I prefer Giugiaro but that's because I'm in that era.

Took these in just one tiny corner in the suburb of KL. Sharp eye guys will see several interesting cars in the background. There are some American classics in front of the 8 series.

U see that Singapore plate car? It's reg in 1947 & still "live" so it must be there for restoration work.

yep. I do know of one guy here who got "booted" out of the house & went to buy a 20' container to put in the garden as his hifi room. Even wired up a dedicated power supply from a nearby substation for it. The speakers alone were $300K....

The crazy things we guys do!

    hmmm

    Me too!

Yes & Countach is still within budget for now. Was studying 5yrs old Octane & some cars have gone 300% while some are still there but one thing for sure rare units with racing history are all but gone & only with big dealers or auctions. Back then, you can still see a few ex MM, leMans or rally cars from Alfa, Aston, Porsche, Maserati etc but none now & should one surface, they'll be asking 6-7 figures

I saw the Gullwing too. Was told it was built by AMG for his highness & asking 5-8million. Very optimistic figures even now.

Whatever, cheap, good & makes money :D

So once you pay import duties, the car can be transported to your home? Any idea if it needs to be a bonded area?

What about cars that do not fall into new car import, used car import and classic import? E.g 10 years old car.

They seem to make it really hard.

If the car is only for display, there should only be a need for GST ;)

well, personally i think that wld be a technicality ... there r too many kids (stompers) out there with nothing to do and just wanna moan & b!tch abt everyone & everything ... & they carry camera phones ...

chances are, u take it out of yr house, it WILL be photographed ... like another "bonded" car shown a few pages ago ...

jon has done some work on this ... perhaps he shld answer this one ...
