Had the same confusion myself (since the TR documentation only, and always, shows the round ignition diagnostic connector), and found (so far) that it's related to which MicroPlex Ignition ECU that you have:

The early TR use the MicroPlex MED 120B Ignition ECU and have the round diagnostic connector (for the Jofatron tester):

The later TR use the MicroPlex MED 120B/D Ignition ECU and have a 3-pin diagnostic connector on a short pigtail off the 25-pin ignition ECU connector (for the SD1/SD2 tester per Brian B. -- and I'll go out on a limb and guess that the "/D" suffix was/is for "digital" or "built-in diagnostics" ;)):

This thread has photos of the connectors:

James -- do you have the 3-pin diagnostic connector?

Yep, I've got the 3-pin connector just like the one in the picture from your original thread, except mine did come with a dust cover. Had assumed this was what was going on based on the location, but as usual the manual is less than helpful like you said. I can't see the model number to confirm the /D, but mine does have an orange sticker near the vacuum input as in your picture, if that's any confirmation.

I actually did try to search here for the info, but used the manual translation of "Diagnosis Socket" and my best-guess English translation of "Diagnostic Connector" so missed your thread. Figured you'd already had this covered!

Was just looking for an easy way to tap into some of those signals on the original connector. Wonder if anyone has tried to probe the new unit's diagnostic output outside of the Ferrari/SD1 world? Are there non-Ferrari applications for this or similar units to leverage information from?

    Thanks for the help!

SD1 or 2 has no applicability to ANY pre Motronic system. Jofotron was the ony device compatible with pre Motronic cars. All Jofatron really did was show timing functions. It was of very little real use.

Did you know that there are also two 3-pin diagnose connectors at the ECU's of a 512TR ?

Very hard to find, on the lead to the ECU, no number.... (above # 7)
