The thread on Internet access got me wondering, are there companies that do not allow Cell Phones in the office. The twenty-somethings seem to spend their whole day on those damn things, updating their S.O. about every insignificant aspect of their day.
Yes. A friend works for a large chemical company and must put his cell phone in a locked storage box during work hours.
My phone is on me at all times. It only gets used if someone calls or txts me (which is maybe once a day). I will anwser the call if it's someone important, or read the text. If unimportant "I'm busy right now I'll call you back" or respond to the unimportant message later. I have educated my friends that I am not being rude but work is work and home is home, a they are kept as seperate as humanly possible within reason. I probably have a brief conversation/exchange once every two to three days.....
It bothers me. I just banned texting and personal calls at work. The texting was entirely out of hand. If this doesn't work, they will have to put their phones in a locker when they check in. I'm not a tyrant, but this is a contract crew and their company is charging me big bucks per hour for them.
They do make wireless active cell phone blocking devices, so in an area like a workplace cell phones do not work.
Cool - Can these be installed in a clandestine manner? and Will they screw up the people in the adjacent building?
They use them in Movie Theaters here in Kuwait, and they don't seem to affect phones out of the theater... Of course, there are no windows, either. Mike
