I am a newbie from Phoenix, AZ.

I have owned a variety of Corvettes from C2's through C6's.

I have owned two Acura NSX's. I currently own a 2000 NSX with 13k miles. Absolutely love the reliabilty of the NSX!

I also absolutely love Lambos and Ferraris, just can't seem to get the nerve to spend so much on a car.

I have a few questions I hope some of you won't mind answering!

    1) Is there a market out there for a Ferrari with low miles, in pristine condition around $80K or less? If so, which year and model?

    2) Are Ferrari's reliable? I won't use it as a daily driver but more of a "Saturday" night out car. My daily driver is Hummer. Should I expect to spend thousands per year keeping my Ferrari running?

    3) I have Allstate Insurance. Will my insurance be considerably higher than a NSX?

    4) What is considered 'high mileage' where routine maintenance will turn into costly repairs (clutch, etc.)? In other words, about what mileage do I want to start avoiding cars for sale?

    5) Where is he best place to locate a Ferrari for sale? I can't find a section on this site for Ferrari's that are for sale.

Again, I am a newbie so please be patient! Answers to the above and any other comments or suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

    Rob

Take all of this with a grain of salt, I just bought my first Ferrari, a 2000 360 red/tan 6sp with 8500 miles, this past week and should take delivery this weekend. I was in a similar position as you with the same concerns. Here is what I found after searching for a month or so.

    1. Yes, generally speaking from the 360, 355, 348, 328, 308, ect can be found for 80K or less. There are a ton of threads on here about the recent 360 pricing. I bought mine for $78,500 with the major service just completed. 80K buys a lot of car lately.

    2. Reliable for sure. The 360 seems to be where the turn was made for a reliable, relatively inexpensive car to own and maintain. The 360 still has a timing belt which should be changed at regular intervals. The 430 uses a timing chain but is more expensive to initially buy. Expect yearly oil changes and fluid changes. Majors, including belts, is at 5K, 15K and 30K miles.

    3. My insurance only went up $300 a year over my 05 Boxster S

    4. Mileage is debated often. A car seldom used is more likely to have issues. A 15 year old car with 800 miles is trouble. A well maintained 25,000 360/430 has proven it is broken in and ready for use.

    5. The usual sites, autotrader, cars.com, dupont, ferrari ads on this site, ebay and even craigslist

Again, I am not sure I even count as an owner yet. Paid for yes, actually driven the car...no. Search on this site, the info is out there. I spent many of nights on here using the search feature. All my opinions above are based on my search for a 360.

Hi Rob... welcome to F-Chat. What I would suggest is to spend a few hours probing
the various forums, and try using the "search" button on the top left of the menu bar.
Just put in a few keywords that are of interest - just know you'll have to wait 30 seconds
between searches - but that gives you a little time to peruse the results of your search.

ALL of your questions have been asked and answered a ZILLION times here, so you
should be able to find LOTS of stuff without a lot of repetition.

Also consider subscribing - even at Silver you'll get more areas to explore. Cheap
and easy to do - no, I don't work for the site. :D

Good luck in your quest and again, welcome to F-Chat

In your price range, I think you want to look at a 360, probably a coupe. See if that floats your boat first. If it doesn't, then look either up or down in the model years.

My suggestion is to search in the 360 section for most of your answers.

There's a lot of good cars out there. Actually, talking to an authorized dealer is not a bad start before you go off on your own on Ebay or Autotrader or your local paper.

Let's just put it this way... a lot of owners are not millionaires but still own and drive them. Maintenance costs very greatly on the model. So, if that is your issue, select wisely.

Wow...great info in such a short amount of time!

    I am going to check E-bay for a 360.

    Many thanks!

Are you sure you want to buy a Ferrari off of E-Bay? Since I am new to this forum, I cannot speak for the Ferrari crowd........but. I do own a DeTomaso Pantera and belong to the Pantera Owners of America (POCA) club and forum member. I can tell you that, with few exceptions, all of the "good" cars are bought and sold through the forum or club. What you will find on E-bay are cars that are usually sub-standard. Again, this is not always the case but more often than not.

If I were you I would look around this board and maybe some local Ferrari chapters for a used 360. You will typicially find that there will be a few people on this forum that have seen the car and can actually give an honest opinion of the car and it's value.

    Just a suggestion

I think he means to check Ebay to see if he likes a 360 and if ones he likes are in his price range. It is a good place to get some basic information on the market.

I think he's a long way away from actually bidding on a car.

We wish him luck though... it's worth the trip!
