It's always nice looking at Maserati chassis' from these days. The welds do not look so much like a drunk teenager did them like so many Ferrari's look.

Sounds like a royal mess. You sould get yourself some tarps and hang them on the walls or use them as shower curtains areoubd the car. Having to clean that crap up twice (once from the car, another from the garage) is a serious downer.

Except for this part, it looks like a blast to work on.

Ed Wood, -master director who loved furs- of very intellectual movies like "Plan Nine From Outer Space with Vampira" was one of the funniest charachters in Tinseltown next to Jane Mansfield and her two Chihuahuas "Precious Jewel" and "Emerald"!

Ivan, you are an inspiration. Great job. Thanks for posting your progress. Your garage/shop is amazing.
I appreciate the information on the windshield washer reservoir. Mine is going to be some kind of bottle, since the mounting bracket is for a bottle. Do you know what color I should paint/coat the brake calipers and exhaust manifold? Thanks for your advice...you obviously know what you are doing.

The brake calipers were a light gray color. I plan on using the Eastwood Brake Gray aerosol paint.

I do not believe the exhaust manifolds had any paint or coating. This is one area which I am unsure how I am going to finish them. I am open to ideas. For me the manifolds must retain a classic look .... ex: no jet coat.

Try Calyx manifold dressing. Also works great on the cast iron brake master cylinder of my A6.

I use Calyx on the Mistral spyder headers. It is a great product and very easy to apply. Unfortunately Calyx must be constantly reapplied as it wears off rather quickly. I would like to find a more durable solution for this car.

Ivan is correct. The brake calipers should be 'mill' finish or cast iron grey. The exhaust manifolds should also be cast iron grey or non coated. Many 3500 GT owners coat the exhaust in white which is not correct.

The EASTWOOD company sells a great 'cast iron' coating which is user friendly and also looks factory correct.

    Good luck in your restoration!

    Ciao!

    Fascinating thread.

I'm looking @ a '64 Sebring 3500 Gti & was told that the 3500 Maseratis are expensive to maintain. Are they?

More expensive than a simple US-V8 but less expensivethan a V12-Ferrari!

Italian Sportscars -lassic or new- are never....cheap!

    Hi Rick,

Before you sell the house and leave the neighborhood ... bring your Khamsin to my place. We should do a photo shoot of your Khamsin next to a Lambo Espada. Two contemporary Gandini creations next to each other. I think the Espada was Gandini's practice while the Khamsin was design perfection. Of course, I am somewhat partial towards Maserati :)

Also, you will get to see the BIG GARAGE as it being built!

Restoring a Sebring can be quite expensive but maintenance costs, once the car is sorted out, is not too high. Of course, maintenance will be much higher than a Honda but should be a fraction of the cost to maintain a modern day Ferrari. Make sure you get a well sorted car. Best to pay a little higher when making the initial purchase and get a good car.

    Ivan
