Have you decided what you are gonna call this thing when finished? Will the "308" on the rear read "312" or something similar? :)

If I can't afford to drive it like that, I won't buy one. Who wants a piece of frickin sculpture? Hell, they are way, way cheaper than an Aston Zagato.

They have a 2.5 and a 2.8. The 2.8 gets about 150 on a good day. Mark? What could you do with 2.8 liters and 12 valves? (Not that I want to distract you or anything - this project is years away...)

These are way too rare to hot-rod.

Nothing is too rare to hot rod! Besides, it's not like I'd be stuffing a small block in there. Just taking the stock V6 and giving it the mk e optimization treatment. Ugo Zagato would be proud! Anyway, back to our regularly scheduled thread...

100hp/liter is easy, 140hp/ liter is possible in a full out build.

I finished up the stub liner and made the casting. I used about 2/3 bondo and 1/3 resin...they said they hate brittle castings and I was afraid the resin only would be brittle but bondo is too thick to self-level very well.....the mixture should be fine. it looks like a few air bubbles on top, but that won't bother anything. Now it sits and it should be ready to come apart tonight and mail tomorrow

Yes, I forgot to mention that part. I wiped everything down with silicone grease to fill in and surface imperfects then top coated with WD-40 for good measure…..i don’t see how ANYTING could stick to combination.

very neat stuff Mark. Gosh I remember the first combustion chamber mold I made with Bondo. I sent it off to Ross racing pistons thinking they were going to call me asking if it was some sort of joke. Turns out it was better than most.... according to them anyway.

The mold popped right apart and it looks at least 1/2 way decent...at least to me. It's boxed and will go JE tomorrow. It's a small, light box so I may splerge and sending it priority 2-3 day mail instead of 7 day ground :)

Now I can get back to ports.

Friggin sweet! Now lets just hope you don't change your mind about something having to do with the valves, combustion chamber shape/design, and cylinder bore size. LOL

ohhhh.....it appears mounting the TBs will be a tad more work than I was thinking.

I wonder how it would flow with the TBs turned sideways. That might help the linkage situation.

Doing it the hard way, it looks there is room but the problem is the TPS mount and the very long ducati linkage arm......which could both be fixed.

How many TPS do we need ?? One per bank ? Could get two per bank one at either end ?

1 is all we need. 1 per bank maybe if it's a 2 ecu solution, but even then 1 would still do.

    Mark,

Once you finish with the head welding are you going to have them heat treated prior to the final machining?

That would be way too smart.

Actually heat treating with all the weld on it scares me more than just going as is so I’ll just go as is.

Yeah, thats probably the smart move. True heat treating would put too much heat into the Frankenstein monolith you have created. But I would suggest you clean them up really well and find someone with a commercial oven to bake them for a couple hours at low heat (at or just above expected operating temp) then use something like KWIK-CHEK dye on them. It would be a shame to have an undetected cold flow turn into a fissure the first time you light this candle.

Do you know what the original alloy (and temper) is?

That sounds right. The heads will be hot when I press the guides and seats and I can dye them after that.

I have no idea what the original alloy it...ferrari says "a proprietary alloy"

I'm done roughing head 1.....it needs a little more weld here and there when the new torch gets here, but they just shipped it friday so that is still a week away. On to head 2.

On some of the Titanium parts my shop has welded, we do a freon sniff test to test the weld integrity. It is a low pressure (shop air) test but is one way of testing without elaborate fixtures.
