Anyone here use their Ferrari as a true daily driver?

I did a search but didn't see anything, so please feel free to redirect me if I missed it. Otherwise...

If so, what model and miles?
Any troubles from the car?
Any troubles from other humans?
Obviously there is an upside for you to do it, so what is it?

 

550 was out every day. Upside was I got to wherever I needed to go without having to walk.

 

I used my F355 as a daily for almost a year. Of course I didnt have to drive to work so my daily driving was pretty limited.

 

1985 308 GTS QV that I drive every day that the weather is pleasant. I do rotate with my other vehicles, but when its nice its driven. I have put 2500 miles on it since I picked it up late last summer. Currently, its at 66,500.

During the nice summer months in the NW I'll drive my 328 GTS for virtually
every reason I need to leave - but I work from home, so we're not talking commute
trips here. I take the Benz for my 2000 mile business road trips. But pretty
much all the normal stuff I'll do in the F-car during the summer.

Not possible or practical in Chicago climate and frequent trips to bad neighborhoods.

 

Search the 400 section. 400i #049773 was used as a daily driver experiment for several years. The owner drove it in and out of NYC on a daily/weekly basis year round. Very impressive results. It's great reading and tons of pics.

In MA, I used my 328 as a daily commuter (about 25 miles each way), rain or shine, for three years --- in summer.
Went from 45K to 60K on the clock -- which I figure is just in alignment with "three years or 15K miles" for the service.

No more than any other decade old car used daily.
I had to fix the aircon, the US 328 has a wiring issue with the fog lights, and at the end of the three years, the shift shaft seals started leaking.

I figured it out once: over that three years, the service costs on the '88 328 and on the '88 Toyota "winter rat" were just about the same.

(Of course, the Toyota was an ST-165 Celica GT-Four ("AllTrac") -- a limited production homologation of the Carlos Sainz Group A rally car, so you could argue that it was "another exotic". Most of the Toyota dealers in the US had never seen one.)

(A 15K 328 service isn't cheap, but the ST165 needed a new turbo during that span. Without anti-lag, the turbo gummed itself up, over time. I switched to synth oil after that. (The turbo used engine oil for lubrication, and the turbo temps would cook mineral oil.))

As my 328 is in gloss black, I took to carrying around a smooth cotton polishing cloth ("diaper cloth" from the auto store), to wipe off the fingerprints that kept appearing on the door and window in the parking lot.

When you drive the same route every day, people get used to seeing it, so you get fewer reactions.

And I could be in and out of the store with all the groceries I could carry in a 328 fast enough that the minivan I parked next to wouldn't have moved.

I had an odd garage at the time -- an oversized single. I could fit two cars in the back and one in the front. But that meant there was only one car I could pull out without moving any of the others. So it was easier to drive the 328 in the rain than to get out one of the other cars.

Besides: Driving the 328 preserved the Toyota WRC car for New England winters.
(I'd actually gone looking for an MR2-T to share the load with the ST165, but wound up with the 328 instead.)

What put an end to the "rain or shine" use was the closing of a bridge about three blocks from the condo, so my daily commute included a two block "special stage" along the muddy banks of the river to detour around the closed bridge. (After a year, I told the town I wasn't going to pay any more road taxes until they built some friggin' roads. )
That, plus a bad service on the 328, plus the EVO 8 becoming available in the US to replace the 15 year old ST165.

In the DC area, I still use the 328 for commuting on summer days, although I tend to use the EVO in the rain.

I feel a bit bad about it, as the city traffic isn't really what the 328 was made for.
But the rumble from that flat-crank V8 seems to help an old man's digestion.
(Now if only I could get my doctor to Rx it so I could write it off as a medical expense. )

What about a Ferrari as the ONLY car owned ?

 

I have driven my 348 as much as possible conditions permitting this includes atleast 4 trips over 1000 miles each . Which translates into over 23,000 miles in the last 4 yrs & it required me to do a rolling mechanical restoration...but its been a heck of alot of fun!!!

i have been driving the 456mgt as my daily driver for the last (nearly) 4 years. i dont have far to commute, which is actually unfortunate !
the downside is that when you do have normal traffic incidents, the possible repair costs are higher than your average fiat.
the upside is that life is short and commuting in one of the greatest marques of all time makes you feel great ! the worst days get better on the drive home !

 

2010 California delivered December 5, 3,200 miles so far. Rain or shine or salt ... just no snow ... love it!

2003 456M GT-A now with 30k miles used as a daily commuter ...

 

Finally I got my dream car a 360 F1 Spider in red!
It took me years but hard work paid off and now here it is and I will certainly use it
every day and make the Girls a little bit more interested in me,ha ha,ha.I got
a tip from a friend about this Dealership in Sierra Vista AZ and that they have bank repos
and some good deals.This baby was supposed to go down under (Australia)but the buyer did not come through.Long story short,made the call,got there (even though it was a little weird how this people make business) and bought it!!! Yes I am proud of it!
