Just wanted to get some of the staining out of the tips of my tubi from soot...I used some automotive chrome polish, but I just need something a little more strong to clean it. Will this Brasso stuff work and is it OK to use? The last time I used this stuff was over 20 years ago when rebuilding a Victrola (crank record player for those in the age of ipods that wonder what that is)- I used it on all the polished metal with good effect...

Also, what should I use for the top visable parts of the tubi exhaust itself (the parts exposed when you open the engine lid)? Figured I'd try to clean the tips first- it may be a diffent product is recommended for each area...

It should be fine. To make any metal polish more effective, first clean the metal surfaces with a solvent cleaner such as lacquer thinner, mineral spirits, tar remover, etc. If the polish doesn't cut enough, use a liquid metal polish with 0000 steel wool for additional bite. If the carbon build-up is really bad, you may first need to wet sand first. Hope this helps.

I use the Mothers Aluminum Polish and it works great! You can buy it at any automotive retailer.

I was using either Mequires or Mother's...I didn't try it a second or third time as I just didn't have time. What about putting this stuff on the exhaust- what happens when the exhaust heats up- will it stink for a while or anything while it burns off or does that not happen (the question is regarding either the Brasso or Mequires/Mother's products..) Not really an issue if I just do the tips, but more of an issue if I try to polish up the actual body of the exhaust in the motor compartment (say the main part, where the tubi says "360")

I use Blue Job polish. It removes all the blue and gold stain on chrome or stainless finishes. I've used it on my tips and the Tubi itself. The results are amazing but lots of rubbing is required.

My brother in law just gave me a can of Noxon to try, which seems similar to the brasso and bar keeper's friend products. I think it will work on the 4 exhaust tips, but I'm not sure if this stuff can be used on the muffler itself due to the extreme heat generated. I sent an e-mail to Tubi's website in Italy to see if they have any recommendations- who knows if I'll get a response...either way, I'll try the Noxon on the tips this coming weekend.

You can use it on the main canister no problem. On my tubi on the 360, I used to clean it with Blue Magic and that worked well. Just polish it with Blue Magic, then spray a cleaner/degreaser on it and it should look pretty good.

Mothers metal polish with their foam sponge-ball which attaches to a power drill.

I can get all 4 tips of the tubi (and the exhaust can) sparkling in just a few minutes

I took my stock f430 muffler out and polished it with BLUE MAGIC metal polish cream from autozone using a Griot Garage random orbital buffer and it looks great!!! Removed all copper colored stains and looks almost like a mirror!

Yeah, it doesn't take long. I used some Blue Magic on my Tubi on the 360 and it looked great after only a few minutes with a rag and some elbow grease.

I started with elbow greese and it worked great! You don't need the buffer. I was bored!!!!

I use this cleaner degreaser after polishing. It will remove any left over polishing agent and give the SS a nice clean look:

Sometimes you can find them on sale for 99 cents on close out. Great stuff. I use it for cleaning rims also. Works amazingly well.

Awesome information guys....I think I'll try to pick up some of that Blue Magic and some of the degreaser this weekend!

    Thanks

I'm not so anal I want to get all the pipes just yet....I'll start with the main canister and see how that goes. I wish I had a challenge grill so people behind me could enjoy the exhaust shine too :) A Challenge grill is my list of things to buy, although it may have to wait until next year due to a depleted self-imposed car budget- ha!

How do you work around all the little holes in the 360 Tubi without getting any product built up or trapped in the holes?

That's my main concern with cleaning my Tubi exhaust pipes - i used water/soap, and a hose, it doesn't clean them 100% but they do shine afterward and are definitely much cleaner

Regarding the exhuast outlets, I was only going to clean the first inch or so- the inside of the cylinder that kind of faces outward- I wasn't going to go as far in as the holes (although cleaning the first several inches of that section would look great too!

Tubi sent me an e-mail back when I asked what to use to clean the exhaust- the person said they use a stainless steel polishing paste, and did not offer any name or product. So, the blue magic it will be for me to clean the cannister and as much of the pipes I can reach/get to easily (with the arm & hammer stuff to clean it off after applying as I still don't know if the heat would do anything if I just polish it with the blue magic)

Another excellent alternative is Heavy Metal (the green colored one; medium abrasive I think).
I use it on my Tubi with excellent results.

Stumbled across this thread and have good advice on this.
Use a piece of CLAY BAR on the tips. Works incredible!! Also perfect for the muffler. A little bit of soapy water on the surface helps the bar to slide. No more polish and rags.
    Try it and see!
