Does anyone experience the followings on your US version 308 / 328?

    1. Point mirrors as outward as possible, still see half of your car in the mirror.

    2. Cannot point mirrors all the way down to see the ground (to back into a parking spot).

If yes, I won't yank my mirrors open to "see if anything is wrong". Thank you all!!

I am able to point the mirror all the way out to see nothing of my car. I've never tried to point it all the way down since I don't parallel park the 328. Although if you want me to, I can try it when I get out next.

I guess you're talking about the Side mirror not the rear view mirror, right?

Had the same sort of issues with my 308 Euro version mirrors too Steve. Last year I took my two mirrors totally apart (right down to the individual planetary gears - nasty business they were) and cleaned everything. Works good now. It's very trickly re-assembly. It took me three tries to get it reassembled right as I FINALLY discovered the mini planetary gears are not all the same! Some were 16T and some were 17T (IIRCC) and had to be put in exatly right or the mirrors do not move right.

If you proceed with this, mark/tag everything as to it's position (I did not)!!

PM or email me if you need any help anytime. I regret not taking many picutres or later posting the repair on this BB.
I have some pics somewhere and can follow up here. And I'm sure it (the repairs) will all come back to me (LOL!)

My right hand rear view mirror drives me nuts for the same reason. I think the problem is that the mirror is magnified (the driver's side mirror does not seem to have this problem). I would love to install a convex mirror that shows most of the road behind me. I posted this question recently and the only suggestion I got was to have a convex mirror cut in the shape of the existing mirror and glue it on the old one. Not very elegant. There must be a way to replace the glass. What are you supposed to do if the glass beaks for some reason, buy new mirrors?

The mirrors have plastic snap type rings bonded to the mirror backs. They should be reusable if the glass-mirror guys are carefull with removal.

Plan B- maybe you can bond the new mirror to the ring with clear colored glazers silicone.

Again, I'm sorry I did not take enough photos of my repairs (!%*%$%$!)

Here is one photo that sort of may help. The 4 holes are for prealignment only. perimeter grips snap over the circular gimbal piece. If you can't find more, let me know and I'll take wome new ones of the mirror back.

Sorry for using only your F-chat ID to respond.

Hi ace_pilot I am lucky, you are my best model. I also own 328. Allright, can you try point both your side mirrors all the way down to see if you can see the ground next to your rear tires?

Hi miketuason Yes, I mean side mirrors.

Hi chairpilot Thanks for the offer. I will start with one side, post some pictures and PM you to come take a look-see. As a starter, what tools are “better to have” to avoid sorrow moments. (Like, “crack!” follows by “oh, shoot!!”)

Hi sdfovc2003 If we have the same problem, I think we both have some dirt in the mirror gear mechanism. I will start this project of fixing it. Will PM you once I have some success.

My '83 GTS has the US spec electric mirrors; they look OK but rear vision is poor no matter how I adjust them.

I've been looking at some of the Vitaloni mirrors available, has anyone put them on their car?

It doesnt bother me to adjust mirrors by hand. Safety is more important han electric adjustment.
