Yeah, sterling. Oh, I absolutely agree. But that's because I think anything spent on a number plate is bonkers. No offense to anyone intended, but I think personalised number plates are completely bizarre. I really don't understand why anyone would want their name or initials on the front of their car. And I have not the slightest idea why anyone would want to spend good money on such a thing. But... I'm having a real problem with the plate positioning on the front of the 458, especially with the whoppers we have in the U.K. So, 8K? Bonkers, certainly. On the other hand, by the time I've spec'd the car it's probably going to clock in somewhere close to 200,000K. So what's an extra 8K if it stops me cringing every time I look at the front of the car? I'll just reconcile it in my mind as just another option to make the car the way I want it. Some people will spend way more on CF than that. I'm sure if I look hard enough I can find a 3 character combination for less than 8K, though. One thing's for certain, it'll have nothing to do with my name! By the way, if you want the number plate 'F1' it will cost you over a million pounds!
What happens if you simply ignore the front plate and toss it in your garage? In the US, there are some states where the front plate is mandatory but some (me included) ignore that law and pay a simple fine $50-$100 dollars if the officer chooses to issue a ticket for such thing, which has never happened.
I can't speak for the UK, but in Australia you wouldn't last a week before getting your first ticket and you get 3 demerits points each time you get stopped without a plate. Within a month, you would have no licence.
Some states in the US are more lenient or carefree about the issue than others. I live in Nevada. The cops could care less. In California, some do, some don't. I've driven over a couple of hundred thousand miles on various cars I've owned over the years without a front plate and only when I left my car at the airport parking lot at LA did I get a ticket for no front plate. I've even been stopped and ticketed for speeding and did not get a front plate warning.
It's mandatory in the U.K. You wouldn't get past your first cop without getting a ticket and at least a fine. Not sure but I assumed you'd get points too. And I think that goes for all European countries.
That photo tells me one thing... the 458 Italia and the Aston Martin Rapide will be tested in Series 15 of Top Gear...
One would hope so. Although I don't think this is the evidence - seems they had the car, did little with it, and then it went back. I'm surprised they didn't get it into the end of the last series. Chris Harris had already got it on film for evo well before the end of the last series of Top Gear and Andy Wilman had said on the Top Gear site that the series was still being made as it was on air. How hard would it have been to insert it into one of the last episodes as a last minute edit? If I'd have been the director I would have shed blood to get it on the show. I expect they'll kick off the next series with the 458... just before the really unfunny segment on piano racing (which is faster in a drag race, upright, grand or Rhodes electric...) and a real rib tickler of a piece where the three cartoon characters that used to be Jeremy, Richard and James make a car out of toilets that runs on methane.
Black 458 http://www.imagebam.com/image/0c095571327457/ It looks like the rear wheels could use a spacer.
THE WHITE LOOKS STUNNING. THERE IS A VIDEO IN THE '458 RED INTERIOR' SECTION! Image Unavailable, Please Login
Drop into the UK section and ask for a second opinion, there's a chap who runs his Scuderia (and previous 430) with tiny stick on front plates with the thumbs up from the law, I believe...
Thats simply not true It may be mandatory but most people know don't have number plates on the front of their Ferraris in the UK and very rarely have problems
the red 458 is the first one i've seen with the rocker panel painted in the body color.....looks good!
Most people? I can't remember having seen a Ferrari without a front plate. I could be wrong, though. Do you run without front plates? I notice the scud in your profile has a plate. If I can get away without a plate that's good news.
Good idea. Thanks for that, I'll check it out. I'm hoping Trax is right and I can get away without one.
Silverstone(?) color seems to soften the angular look.I'm a red/tan old fashion type but the best colors may be black or something near silverstone on this next classic.
