I hv only driven them independently. Cannot compare on all fronts. The 10 yr difference on technology is just too great.

Audi, I'm really glad that we spoke about this yesterday because while I was home showing a little TLC to my 456 @ midnight, disaster struck!

A little metal piece dropped into the power plug on the centre console & short-circuited then my cabin lights went out! Fine, change fuse right? So, where's the fusebox? Manual in the boot & it's controlled by only one method, a toggle switch which don't work now too! Ok, the emergency cable which I pulled & ..... didn't work!

Opened the bonnet Then I remembered that the fusebox that we spoke of which is usually in the passenger footwell. Removed all the carpets & guess what? The factory protection stickers are still over the carpet & delivery sticker on the sill intact :)

Had to bring my 911 over, get screwdriver+torch & spare fuses then after 1 hour. Everything's fine..... geez.

Tiong's right about early electronics stuff & I still can't figure out why they had to have an ECU to control the power steering (I can upgrade this to 575M's Fiorano ECU for better response @ USD930), self-levelling rear shocks, several things that are controlled by electronic toggles which seem to break everytime u hit it. Can't they just stick to simple rack/pinion & a pushbutton/key to open the boot?

    Oh dear....

That's what's keeping me back. I want manual for a keeper or at least have one that's under warranty & >3yrs for those fancy F1 stuff.

Yes, been watching video by Jeremy C when they parred it against the then Vanquish. Current owner loves it to bits but not sure if he drives it hard enuf to wear it out & mileage is in 50Ks.

Was wif the Malaysian Porsche boys & those guys do drive hard! My revs were hardly under 5k rpm. Well, they said that's what these cars are made for! & they go all the way to Phuket, Chiang Mai etc while the Ferrari owners here are happily satisfied with Cameron weekends. The guys were like, what? Cameron's a breakfast drive...

To be honest I'm getting a little old for fast sweeping corners & rather enjoy the scenery :D

Hey thanks for the sms. My ex Testa was also from him! Can't exactly say I like the 456, it's a GT for family picnics with miles of leather which still smell of cow :D & yes, it is soft for the moment. Will look into how to improve it.

Yep, price is attractive to me at least but again the annual rd tax+insurance amounting to S$14K+/- even if I don't use it & transfer fee alone @ S$7.3K. Can buy myself another Daytona a year!

Yes yes & yes. V12 very smooth :)

May I give my opinion on this?

I would say to make your decision based on cars that you already have. I'm assuming that you're affluent enough to have multiple cars here :p

Anyway if you have a daily driver and a relatively "comfortable" car that you could use to get from home to work or anywhere, then I'd say get the classic car.

Bringing that out (In my honest opinion) would be more of an occasion, more special. Its like Clarkson on the 599, where he'd rather have the 275 GTS.

Speaking of that now I remembered I was @ Bt Tinggi last year. There's a faked castle & Jap garden on the peak right? Think it's owned by YTL group. The newer winding road is quite fun but thought there were speed humps.

That's true & only from Chinese stalls which is rare even in S'pore.

That's true. Come to think about it, most if not all of the guys here have a fleet.

I can only afford the small scaled ones for cabinet & adopt old ones where people don't want :D

But u do have a point & so does Clarkson. Besides, a good Dino is worth as much as a 599 now & oozes so much for class for me. A rather strange redish-orange colored F599 went pass me this morning in KL. Not Rosso Scuderia, could this be the latest F1 color or just the lighting?

Alright boys. It seems that what I read is true.

There's NO 100% extra duty for vintage cars, built before 1 Jan 1940. So, you just pay for 20% & 7% GST. That's all & a S$140 reg fee. ARF is waived but you cannot sell or transfer within Singapore (not sure if it's OK to pass down the family) which is fine by me since I'm prepared to send it to auctions or export later.

Under 4B) LHD may be registered :)

There's two schemes & one rather strange scheme. Under "normal" you must bid/buy a normal COE for it & pay rd tax based on the cc like any other cars. They didn't say that it has restricted no of days to use which means it's anytime of the day? They said "no restriction on usage; subject to the licensing requirements."

So, to wind back to time, we'll be dealing with a car that doesn't have any electronics. Pure mechnical, maybe wood frame & basic electrics. Those large Jaeger meters look good :)

Now this will be quite an occasion everytime u take it on the roads!

Oh yes, Berjaya. The Japanese garden is lovely. I was there late last year & weather dropped to under 20 @ night which suited the "European street", my room was facing the Genting Casino but a pity half the resort is closed as it's not probably not well marketed. Good for a 2D1N relaxing getaway.

Problem for me is that the desirable stuff was built in the mid 60s onwards till the 80s. Unless you like the classic Rollers/Bentleys? Maybe a Merc roadster like the one Hitler and gang rode in? 500K, if I recall correctly and good looking too. There is this guy at Turf City, boss of Good Land Holdings who has the largest vintage collection in S'pore. I interviewed him for an article a few months back and he would be the man to talk to about these vintage cars.
