Hmm, better this than a white countach right? :)

This is an 03/04 mfr car & registered 06. Car was sitting in showroom for 3yrs as white was not fashionable then & finally someone bought it for a good deal, under 1mill. 1st owner didn't use it much & ES replaced a new steering rack. It should be on the 3rd owner now with Dr. Chan. Khips was just a few minutes shy of clinching this car & damn sore abt it :D

Chan, fitted those deep dishes, exhaust, blacked out tailamp etc. *bling* things.

Key thing is the MYR. The car has old self-levelling suspension system & smaller brake system. Another is for export, got to check which country can do it for it's age or else keep it here for long.

The current dealer offered a "generous" $100K for the body of an 05Myr Murcie so please chk with him how he values it ;) I sold it for $180K.

Countach is more "in your face" as compared to subsequent scissor door cars. But must be almost impossible to live with as compared to Murcie.

How are the export markets doing? Can't be good with our strong SGP and weak local economies overseas in the traditional export markets. I mean, aren't we the ones looking to import their cars now?

Was thinking about the F575 last night.

We car owners are screwed by lta & dealers + market for sure.

In the old system of 130% parf, we could easily export the car for good value with just the "paper" & body, come new ARF in 03, yes we pay lesser taxes up front but look @ cars prices, it dipped a little but went virtually 45 degrees up all the way up!

Today, dealers & car market condition are still taking our cars for paper value + car body. So, let's say you buy a million dollar F458 with an OMV of $250K & $30K COE. In 10yrs time, it's left with parf of $125K (50% of OMV) plus body of say $120K, you lose 3/4 million in ten years, excluding an annual running cost of $15K & finance costs if you take up any.

I don't have the formula for 5yrs but parf is probably about $230K & a coe of $15K by then.

In short, the balance are all lost from our pocket. Hard earned money that. There's no more premium of $30-50K above total paper+body value these days. Yes, the dealers will sell you that extra per year but not when you're selling!

Which means, if I were to buy an 03 575 with 65% parf now, I can also wait another few years for a later car to come in with right color/specs for lower price since the 50% parf will save me another 15% on paper!

Not sure if u guys catch my swing :D

Summary. If u can't wait & feel that life's short, then just do it. Good way to blast few hundred Ks off that sexy exhaust then waking up next day to make it back again.

Well, the Countach is the icon for exotic expecially the late model with big wing & all. Thanks to Alpine making it their ambassador! When I was young, I thought all Lambos come with Alpine & when u have an Alpine in your toyota, u have the spirit of Lambo in it! :D

For export, the market is bigger now with more RHD countries doing better but Australia & some have the currency grown quite strong against ours, so those are the places to go ;)

Yah, and that's why COEed cars make more sense in that respect. New cars in S'pore are an accountant's absolute nightmare. And we have not mention opportunity cost of that huge outlay on a depreciating asset yet.

But life is unpredictable and these cars were/are our dreams/passion so I guess as long as we do it within our limits... I did mention to wifey that I cannot live my life not having at least one of these cars, when trying to convince her. I won, finally!

Anyway, my prediction is in 5-10yrs time when the biggest car mkt in the world starts to look into classics & vintages.

China's buying all the newest kid on the block now. When they mature & have finer taste, like rarities then they'll turn to classics. They are already snapping up wines & watches in auctions. Very soon, it'll be cars just like the Japanese in the 80s.

And they are LHD. So, why are we still cuddling our beloved RHDs?

I won't be surprised if some 250GTOs find their way there in future.

Agree on that! So time to stock up LHDs? And many more desirables are indeed only LHDs like the 288GTO/F40/F50.

Whua hahaha. That we have to let Mp deal with :)

But speaking of that, I might be making a trip to Sri Lanka to chk out barn finds & my friend is building some roads there too.

I think the seller should know these better. Sameer's Murcie was exported to Aussie so it should do fine & the silver 575 is going there too. A$ strong now so not sure if you wanna keep the white Murcie but do take note of the mfr year & mileage must be kept under 50K.

From an investment POV, I would say affordable Ferraris won't go wrong. Spend about S$500-800K on the body would be fine & like my thoughts, even keep it's UK/EU registration whatever which is more flexible on later exports.

Aston Martin DB5 would be fine for it's J. Bond heritage but that's easily over half a mill so DB6 is a better choice for pocket @ a quarter it's value for similar looks & probably better in handling etc.

Don't be like me trying to look @ Maserati, French & some other makes which are not exactly on people's radar which means difficult to sell later on.

E-types are fine as they are universally a well known shape/brand but they made about 75000 of those so I'm in no hurry to buy one as u can come back 5-10yrs later & still plenty available.

The man sure has good taste and plenty of dosh to go along. The P series must rank as one of the most beautiful cars ever built, let alone boasting real racing history. Also love the 206S Dino and the 250TR Pontoon. It's the curves!

Sadly with safety regs, we'll never see a modern car that beautiful.

Jon, you will love the Jag XJ13 when you see it. Only 1 every built and sitting in the heritage museum which I'll find my way there sometime in spring/summer.
