i know they recently hit the 4000th, but i was wondering how many they made per year. i found this on wiki: Production Year Units 2001 2002 2003 2004 2005 2006 444 2007 629 2008 637 2009 Total but most of the years are blank. anybody got any info on the other years? from my VIN, i know what number mine is in 2002. i was just wondering how many were made in 2001. thanks! *edit oh wait, just reading more. there are no 2001 cars right? i found some places that said car came out sept 2001 as a 2002 model. so no vin's from 2001? so if my car is a 2002, the number in the vin is the number made from the beginning?
According to the documentary I just watched, it was over 5000 when it was filmed. They said the last 4 digits of the VIN were the # of the Murci in the total build #. edit- odd, just found another example from February 2010 saying car #4000 just rolled off the line.. So, somewhere between 4000 and 5000 I guess..
Its not as simple as that since prior to mid 2003 the serial number was only 3 digits and since then its 5 digits. -mick
oh, you must be the one that made the vin decoder: http://www.gday.com/lambo/misc/vins.htm thanks for that! i am curious to know if there are any murc's with 2001 VIN's, or if the 2002's are really the first year. because then it's easy for me to know, where mine fits from the very beginning.
The film had a little fluff in it.. The 4000th Lp was just completed about 6 weeks ago on the line. It was a LP670-4SV. The lucky owner of car #4000 is from Japan. My Blue SV is car #3945 and Tom's Green SV is car #3935, both built a week apart. On average they complete 9 LP cars a full week.
Can only guess that no 2001 Murci VINs exist since the unveiling was in Sept 2001 which is already the start of the 2002 model year. -mick
If the documentary was the National Geographic show Ultimate Factories, I think you'll find that the VIN inscribed was 3765. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
It is also important to note that the number of 4000 units applies to all of the variats of the the Murcielago including race cars, convertibles, 640's, and SV's. As for production numbers of the early cars I feel it can only be roughly guessed as I have also come up blank looking for production numbers. What I do know is that production rates have been pretty steady 11 months per year. Remember that in Italy the factories close in September for holidays.
Does this sound abour right for the flagship models? Miura 765 cars in 7 years Countach 1,985 cars in 16 years Diablo 3,000 cars in 10 years Murci about 4,200 cars in 10 years
