According to recent reports the MP4-12C is able to crack the 60 mph mark in "under three seconds" when utilizing the launch control feature on its seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. Partnered with its 2,870 curb weight (there's still some debate if that's "dry" or fully loaded with fluids) and 600 horsepower and 443 pound-feet of torque, the more telling stat is its 0-124 mph time of "under 10 seconds."

Has anyone said the price yet?

Like Ron Dennis himself, it's boring to look at but bubbling with all kinds of interesting ideas under the skin.

    Under £175k according to Dennis.
Panamera is heads and shoulders above the competition but it's looks is a major obstacle.
MP4 is definitely not an unatractive car, maybe not ground breaking or sexy (as the Italia) but good looking enough to overlook any styling disadvantage in favor of it's incredible stats.

It looks like a cross between a 360/430 (front), 458 (top and rear), Testarossa (side air inlets) and Enzo (with the way the doors raise).

Somehow I find that the McLaren has so many Ferrari elements to be humorous...

I can just hear the McLaren jokes start to fly.

"Not only does McLaren look to Ferrari for ideas for it's F1 cars, but looks to Ferrari for styling ideas for its road cars as well!" ;)

Lets be totally honest about it, when it comes to F1 and now the road car division, McLaren are desperately trying to copy eveything Ferrari does (not literally, but business wise).

It's like McLaren are Ferrari's little brother and are trying to be as cool as their big brother. They're even asking Ferrari if they can go everwhere Ferrari goes with GT racing in a: "Can I hang out with you Bro?", type of way.
This analogy even comes complete with the traditional: "Trying to prove that they're better than their big brother" scenario, by being faster and more high tech with their road cars.

The big problem for McLaren (and Ron Dennis in particular), is that you can copy Ferrari's business style all you like, and you can beat Ferrari all you like, but one thing that will never change is that you will never be Ferrari!.

I find it funny how you can't see the similarities in the door style of the Enzo and the F1 or even the shape of the nose of the 360 (a huge departure for Ferrari) and the F1. Both cars you claim McLaren is stealing from for the MP actually look strangely similar to the F1 that pre-dated both.

I hate the styling of this car; it's awful. It's mediocrity makes it awful. I don't care that it has motorcycle-like performance benchmarks. I don't care that it's a "McLaren." It sucks.

I'm intending to purchase one. It's a damn bargain given the technological and engineering feat.

    People, stop being such haters.

If Ferrari had produce this car you all would be all over it. Yet somehow the ferrari california is acceptable.

That isn't true. The hatred for the California was well made loud and clear for months and months in endless hater threads. Lots of people don't like the 458's bizarre front end or interior.

But in the end, it's your choice of taste. I like lots of cars that the majority finds undesirable. There is a buyer for a wide spectrum of cars. Some people love cars made by Citroen, whereas I think those are among the ugliest cars ever created on Earth. Follow your bliss!

I think we would complain about the styling if it had a F badge on it. We'd probably complain about the price too. I doubt we'd complain about the stats or the technology.

The 458 and California are not getting a "pass" from Ferrari fans, as doesn't the 599 and 612. I think Ferrari fans are very much able to see past their love of the marque when it comes to their likes and dislikes.

This car just doesn't deliver when it comes to looks no matter what name is written on the rear. It's also got a very bizarre name (code?) that no one can remember!

BTW: I saw a white Cali leave the 458 event the other night and I thought it was GORGEOUS. Very elegant...

Competition is healthy. MP4-12C will make Ferrari step up and deliver a 600hp 458 Scuderia.
Which in turn is good for us.

+1 I really like this one. The styling is a little close to the Gallardo, but I'm not sure that's a bad thing. The V8TT means that tuners will be getting more power out of them (not that 600hp is insufficient for road use, but hey, we're car guys).

    Shhhh! ;)

I find it funny how McLaren is set to launch a car that outaccelerates the now second place 997 Turbo and anything Ferrari can offer, and suddenly the topic turns to styling.

I'm sure it will be a niche car, but hats off the engineering team. 2,870 lbs is hugely impressive. That's about 900 lbs less than a 599.

Interesting (and probably accurate) point about the change of discussion topic... :)

Personally, I have still failed to fall in love with the car. And that's very important to me. I find it very cool and techie, etc., even though I don't prefer all the computer gadgets and whatnot.

I just can't bring myself to want one, to ache for one, as badly as, say, oh, a lowly 328.

Question of the Day: What does a 328 have that an MP4-12C doesn't?

Answer: It's like sex: Would you rather get there as quickly and efficiently as possible, or would you rather have a slow, simmering, passionate, all-encompassing experience?

I'm not sure what you're getting at here because from what I see, most people are applauding McLaren's specs and technology, not knocking it. We think it should look better but we say the same for Ferrari's.

I didn't see anyone stand up for the California when it's specs far exceeded any other GT in its class on the market.

Where's that hat's off to the engineering team of the California....

Nobody asked for my opinion but since its a public forum...

Bleh...this car does nothing for me. Another cookie cutter boring car.

I couldnt care less if it went 0-60 in 1 second or 5 seconds. I just cant understand chasing slight performance gains. Does someone really get that much more enjoyment out of 0-60 in 2.9 sec than 3.9 sec ? Really ? Really ?

I guess if someone is really into state of the art engineering I can see how these cars would excite them but truthfully I think most people buy them for simple bragging rights.
