Just started a couple days ago----While browsing or within Quickbooks, computer says Not Responding---The cursor starts spinning and the computer does nothing. Have to shut down and re-start---Any ideas? Using Firefox as a browser and it is up to date.

Do you have any add-ons in Firefox? Disable them or start Firefox in safe mode.

    Robbie,
What OS? Everything up to date? CTRL-ALT-DEL and see what processes are running and what is chewing up all your power.

What had you done differently when the problem started happening? Just looked up Quickbooks and it seems only the 2010 edition is compatible with 7, what version are you running?

When he said check processes on CTRL+ALT+DELETE that means going to the 2nd tab in that says processes not just the first one that comes up which is labelled applications.

Then you should click to sort by CPU or Memory and see if something is munching all your resources. Obviously this next bit comes with a disclaimer that you do it at your own risk, but read the description for the process thats eating everything, and if your ok with what it is, right click and end process.

If that sorts out the problem you've just got to work out whats causing the process to run.

Only thing I have done recently is add that Carbonite Online backup service---I have a external 500gb HD that is almost full and don't want to lose anything.

I am running version 2010 Quickbooks, I had to upgrade from 2009 when I got Windows 7...

It has to be the back-up program. Their website says it runs and updates in real-time, I'd suggest just buying a couple 1TB drives, under $150 now.

    edit: some more instances http://www.donloper.com/product-service-reviews/carbonite-backup-slows-computer.html

I think we need some more information, what are the specs of the computer you are using? I run carbonite real time on my laptops and do not see a problem.

Have you recently updated firefox? 210k seems high you could try uninstalling and reinstalling an older version:

Funny, you say that, I have had 2 popups recently that said something about allowing JAVA to update--I clicked yes....it said it was a trusted site

I downloaded the older version of Firefox, not as slow as 2 days ago, but still getting the Not Responding message 4-5 times a day....

Ran Malware Bytes and did a full scan, took 4 hours and no infections or problems detected...

Try uninstalling Java and reinstalling. There have been some problems lately. Also do the same for flash.

Don't quote me on this since I haven't used 7, but there should be an option for Add/Remove Programs under System in the Control Panel.

Did you ever try stopping the back-up system? Does it still only jam up when using Qbooks?
